Re: German National Football Team Thread (Nationalmannschaft
I think Germany should play Muller and Reus upfront. They would dominate with Khedira and Gotze forward runs plus they would have a dominant counter-atack with that kind of speed and should dominate in slow-tempo possessions with that kind of mobility

This is why I call for a 4-3-1-2-0/4-3-3-0 so much. Let Marco and mueller do their things coming in from the channels, let Ozil do his drift around to anywhere that's not where ten's used to all operate thing and fill in the holes that have always popped up behind that trio under Jogi. Ideally we'd play Khedira, Ilkay and Kroos/Schweini, but with Ilkay definitely gone I worry pairing Khedira with the Bayern pair of Kroos and Schweini could leave us far too static there. Which is why I'm having a hard time seeing a good alternatives to playing Khedira, Lahm and one of the slow Bayern guys given that Geis and Goretzka are still just babies.

Re: German National Football Team Thread (Nationalmannschaft
I'd play a 4-6-0 or 4-2-4-0.
______________________________________
______________________________________
___ Reus ___ Gotze ____ Ozil_______Muller
_______________________________________
____________Schwein __ Khedira ________
______________________________________
Schmel___Hummels______Mertes____Lahm
______________________________________
Which is basically the same as the 2010 WC. Just replaced Poldi with Reus, Klose with Gotze, Hummels and Schmelzer too.
What changes from 2010? Just the fact that you take out a target man, insted you add a midfielder that attack the box (Gotze), gives more freedom to the wingers to attack the box too, and not have to come deep to help building up plays, and this would work specially well with Khedira. There would be 4 midfielders roaming around the box all the game. Benefits? Improved passing, improved speed, improved mobility of the attack, total midfield domination, specially if Ozil and Gotze commit to close the gaps and help with Muller and Reus with the pressing sporadically during a game. Cons? No true striker in the box, lose an aerial target in Klose. If the team start the game losing, would have to change the whole mentality.
Which is not that kind of big deal since Klose was never a physiscally imposing striker, and Germany reliant on the aerial goals to score.
If you look closely, it's damn similar to what kind of tactics Spain used in the last WC, except for the fact that this team is far stronger physically and far faster. And if you compare even more close, there is no defensive loss from the German starting XI in the last WC, pretty much the same personel, on the same defensive scheme, except that with one more midfielder, who has younger lungs to help the pressing upfront. Sure, it's a unconventional concept, but I think this would fit Germany's personnel the best, and not really far from the 2010 concept, but more dynamic (but without any aerial game instead of Muller and Khedira, aside of course, from set pieces).

Re: German National Football Team Thread (Nationalmannschaft
Schmelzer has been cut from the team and Durm has taken his spot.
I also do not like a pairing of Hummels and Mertesacker as that would be way too slow and rob Hummels of his abilities to create something, given that he'd need to play the clean up role in that pairing.
So I'd play Boateng and Hummels ideally, but I expect the pairing to be Mertesacker and Boateng.
What we can't do is play Boateng at RB, cause that's just not going ot cut it.
I don't like Özil and Götze up front because they seem to be hardly interested to swtich to the wings and therefore would take away the strengths of Reus and Müller, who'd have to stay on the wings because of that.
I still think the starting eleven will be something like this.
----------------------------Klose---------------------------------------
-Reus---------------------------Özil-------------------------Müller-
------------------------Schweinsteiger----Khedira------------------
-Durm------------Boateng-------------Mertesacker--------Lahm-
------------------------------------Neuer---------------------------------
Though, if Kose can't make it I'd play Müller up front and if Özil keeps jogging on the pitch, like he did against Cameroon and most of the season at Arsenal, then I'd play Kroos or Götze at his position.

I would play Kramer instead of Khedira. Sami just looks so bad and out of shape due to injuries.

Löw would play Khedira even if he would lose both of his legs.

What? He was our best player in the last match.

Re: German National Football Team Thread (Nationalmannschaft
Our NT today vs Armenia, billed as "a serious indication of our final XI":
Weidenfeller (*)
Boateng, Merte, Hummels, Höwedes
Lahm, Khedira
Schürrle, Kroos, Reus
Müller
(*) Neuer has a gimpy shoulder but will probably be healthy in time
Özil and Götze ride the bench, but honestly, they are totally out of sync. Reus and Schürrle are better. And honestly, if Boateng and Höwedes are our fullbacks, any decent winger is going to kill us

Re: German National Football Team Thread (Nationalmannschaft
Until now, the game has been like a bad Bayern game.
1) 80% ball possession with zero ball speed and zero creativity
2) Enemy CBs clear every cross for a corner
3) Laughably ineffective corner
4) Ball regained, start at 1)
The only point of interest are Weidenfeller's asymmetric shoes (one pink, one blue).

Reus has rolled his ankle and is replaced by Podolski. If Reus is seriously injured, then

I seriously can't think of a time in which we were good at that.

Even though he's now playing against an Armenian team that seems to be completely tired, that's exactly how Özil needs to play.

Re: German National Football Team Thread (Nationalmannschaft
All in all, the result is okay, even though the first half didn't look good, Klose is still alive and still awesome, bench (Poldi, Özil, Klose, Götze) looked good and Reus got hurt. And just because of the Reus injury this game sucked.
