Realistic S&T returns for Monroe
Pelicans - Gordon/Evans or Ryno if we offer something more.
Wizards - Maybe Porter if they re-sign Ariza or Webster (this last must be a soundly NO for us)
Timberwolves - Martin/Brewer/Budinger, a mix of two of them. Maybe we could get Shabazz too.
Thunder - Reggie Jackson and Perkins and if we got luck Lamb or Perry Jones.
Suns - Frye and Gerald Green or even if we got luck Markieff Morris.
Celtics - Jeff Green and maybe Bass.
Hawks - If they are so generous, maybe Millsap or Korver of even both (seems so unrealistic for a S&T return), most probably a combination of those two with Lou Williams or Carroll.
Please don't tell me Smith is the devil and Monroe is a better version of Olajuwon, I'm just asking for realistic S&T's for Monroe.

Re: Realistic S&T returns for Monroe
Most of those wouldn't work as stated due to the salaries not coming close to matching up.
Talent-wise, those aren't too much of a reach for Monroe. No team will give up a player that's part of their core in a sign and trade, it just doesn't happen. But, most of those guys are dispensable, or aren't part of the team's future plans.
Eric Gordon would probably be the best player we could get from a purely talent standpoint, but his contract is awful.
I'm firmly in the re-sign Monroe and find a new home for Smith party.

I'm not excited by a lot of these but I really like Ryan Anderson. He's as good of an offensive player as Monroe is now, and he's only a few years older than him. He spots up well but can also come off screens like Rip or Klay Thompson and has all sorts of step backs and quick-trigger stuff to get shots off in traffic. He's also a wizard at offensive rebounding angles. Since he's signed for about 60% of what Monroe would make, I'd be comfortable with him as a return for a S&T if we decide Monroe isn't for us. I know that leaves us with the same logjam at PF, but at least he's a true stretch 4 who would spread the floor for Drum (or Smith in small-ball lineups) and clear the lanes for BJ. Based on talent alone I think he's by far the best of the proposed realistic trades.
Some thoughts on the other trades: I don't see the appeal of Jeff Green--he's never been efficient, he's not a good defender, and he makes a lot of money--and I worry that Markieff Morris' shooting numbers were a fluke last year (he jumped from an awful 47% true shooting his first two seasons to a solid 57% last season). Martin makes too much money and is a truly terrible defender, don't see Brewer being a major upgrade for us. I kind of like the idea of taking a crack at Otto Porter, though he does have potential bust written all over him. At least there's genuine upside there, and it's a low stakes gamble considering the rookie scale he'd be on.

Re: Realistic S&T returns for Monroe
If we get Ryno for Monroe, I would try Smith as an old school SF, playing in the post like Aguirre or Worthy and creating continuous match-ups. Smith is an excelent passer, specially passing for the three so I think could be a great offensive system, and Smith last season in ATL was the best perimeter defender as SF by Synergy, letting his par at 9 PER).

Assuming you're a Pels fan (with that 504 in your name!), what's the attitude to both Ryno and Monroe? Ryno and AD are both great offensive players but obviously aren't perfect complements. Both are good shooters but neither can post up and neither can handle bigger post players. Seems like that's an awkward fit, even if both are great at what they do.
Would Monroe be seen as a better complement, given his low post and creation abilities? Has his problems on D of course, but Monroe can board really well and bang some, and AD would be better at covering for his slow feet and missed assignments. And he's closer to Ad and Jrue's age.

I think Monroe and AD would be great together but he's not as valuable as most people make him out to be. He's at best a 3rd/4th option on a contender. Giving up Ryan and Gordon(LOL) for him is a lot but I don't see the pels paying anything near max for him. I'm not really sure they will really pursue him strongly unless it's a straight swap because they are adamant about not taking touches away form AD which Monroe would do because he's useless other wise. I can see the best offer will be Gordon/Withey for Monroe and Monroe sings for 12 mil.

I agree that Monroe is a 3rd/4th option at best on a contender. However, Gordon is probably 3rd/4th option at best too, and in my opinion Ryan is probably a bench player on a contender. How much different is he from Matt Bonner? To me they are both stretch 4s that you bring off the bench. And when you factor in both Gordon/Ryan have injury issues and big contracts that add significant risk, I don't think that it would be that unfair of a deal for Monroe.
Ultimately deals are usually made based on fit more than value too, and if Monroe makes NO better than Gordon/Ryan did, and they make the Pistons better, I could see both teams being interested. Both only winning 25-30 games, none of them are really helping their current teams staying put. Sometimes a trade just for changes sake can benefit both teams.

That's a good take. Most of us feel like Monroe would be great for about 4/36 and we'd be okay paying him 4/45. We're only exploring S&T because we think he might be holding out for a 4/60, which would be tough to swallow considering our roster. I do think swapping Ryno and Monroe could benefit both teams (though Monroe would make significantly more money), and giving Anderson's possessions to Monroe wouldn't take much out of AD's pie.

It would be a great trade no doubt it all depends on the money he make and what the difference with Broner he doesn't put up 19/7.

None of your proposals have us getting first-round draft picks in return. Why don't you want picks?

Ok, but then don't come with this:

Re: Realistic S&T returns for Monroe
You guys are really undervaluing Monroe. Sorry but he is worth more than any of these proposed trades. And if SVG can't get good value this summer, just match any offer and trade him in one, two years when a serious good return is available.

This!
Skilled young bigs are hard to find and letting one go for less than market value is not how you build a winner.
Apparently quite a few teams are going to try and woo Monroe this off-season...he can only sign one offer sheet!
You match that offer sheet and begin trade negotiations with all the teams that wanted him but didn't get him to sign the offer sheet.
If we get fair compensation then you approach Monroe about possible trade destinations & make the deal. If no one wants to pony up serious assets for him you don't ask Monroe to approve the deal!
People act like Monroe would sign the offer sheet and then him & his agent retire to a lodge for 3 days while our suits work out if we'll match or not.
We'll know his intentions well in advance of him signing the offer sheet

Re: Realistic S&T returns for Monroe
1) No chance you get Ryan Anderson for Monroe. None.
2) Hawks can just sign Monroe for nothing (assuming they even want him, don't think he fits well), so why would they offer you anything?
3) The Thunder are not giving you R.Jax for Monroe on principle, never mind the luxury tax implications (which make it a complete no go).
A player like Otto Porter is certainly reasonable though. You could maybe try the Hornets and see if they've given up on MKG yet.

Not a good analogy at all. Bonner and Anderson have essentially the same exact skillsets, except Anderson is a better rebounder, but both are basically just 6-10 3pt shooters whose only role in the game is spread the court. Neither are good defenders though, which is why you won't see either consistently starting on a contender.
The difference between Bonner and Anderson is Anderson gets twice as many FGAs and is a better rebounder. That's it. Both are bench players on contenders.
You could give Bynum 40 shots per game and he would never be as good as Wade. Not to mention one is a 5-10 PG who can't shoot and is a defensive liability, and the other is 6-5 SG with one of the best jumpshots in history and a great defender. Not even close to the Bonner/Anderson comparison.

Uh, no they can't. He's a restricted free agent, we can threaten to match (and we can match any offer since we have his Bird Rights). If they want Monroe, they'll have to give us something for him. That's the point of restricted free agency.Baller2014 wrote:2) Hawks can just sign Monroe for nothing (assuming they even want him, don't think he fits well), so why would they offer you anything?

We can't get 2014 picks for him, although we could get 2015 picks for him. It just seems unlikely that a team will give a pick up, they generally don't like doing that.Dirtgrain wrote:None of your proposals have us getting first-round draft picks in return. Why don't you want picks?

Re: Realistic S&T returns for Monroe
Some people here are really delusional with Monroe. Seems like only the USA Pistons fans think Monroe is a player who he is really far to be. I know so much time without talent in our team could have damaged your minds, but is time to open it.
Same people who thinks we could get a first round for Monroe in a S&T are who think Smith is the evil on earth and Monroe is our saviour. But this is not to talk AGAIN about Monroe or Smith. I'm just asking for realistic returns for Monroe, so please, don't first rounds or talk about we are undervaluing Monroe and we should get Melo Love and a couple of first rounds for him. Thanks.
It's clear you NEVER have seen how Ryno plays.

The feeling is mutual. I'd like to hear what you think he does that's so great, besides make 3's?
