Quin Snyder Officially Named Utah Jazz Head Coach

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Sat May 31, 2014 5:11 am

RealGM Wiretap wrote:Quin Snyder has emerged as a leading candidate to become the next head coach of the Utah Jazz.

"It's very plausible," one source told the Deseret News when speaking of Snyder possibly being hired by the Jazz.

Another source said Snyder is "very high on a short list" of Jazz coaching candidates.

Snyder, sources say, has increasingly captured the interest of the Jazz front office to become the man who leads the franchise through the next steps of this rebuilding process with the goal of becoming a "championship-caliber" organization.Via Jody Genessy/Deseret News

I'd really hate to lose this guy after only one season here in Atlanta. Stability is the key to the kind of success we're hoping for.

But it seems inevitable that he'll get a shot at NBA Head Coach. If I recall correctly, he was rumored for the 76ers job last season.

Any thoughts or concerns on how his departure could impact our team next year? Particularly, the development of the young pups?

Have to admit that I'm happy with this development: Coach Bud has been an HC for all of 1 season, and he's about to start growing a tree! Good to see what we know (Coach Bud has been doing an excellent job as HC) to be confirmed. I'd imagine that Coach Bud's next hire will be every bit as solid as his last.

WTG Quin and Bud!!

Looks like we'll be needing a new lead assistant....

Maurice Cheeks, Ty Corbin, Eric Musselman, PJ Carlesimo come to mind.

Thoughts?
Concerns?
Well wishes?

Awesome for Quin. While I hate losing him, I'm happy to see his talent's been recognized and he's finally getting his shot.

As for my preferred assistant coach...
Van Gundy moved into a broadcasting career after this, though on ESPN writer Bill Simmons' May 12, 2009 podcast, he expressed his desire to eventually return to coaching, stating he would consider being an assistant coach.

Get it done Danny... you owe him after this:

Good for coach Snyder that he's finally getting his chance. I hate to see him go though.

Very happy for Coach Snyder and what this could mean for his future.
I look forward to seeing what he does in Utah and how the players take to him.

On another note, can anyone see possible trades with UTH? Snyder coached our summer league team which had Schröder at his best and Nogueira. He was also 1st Lieutenant all season so he saw every practice.

Personally, I don't see one. I couldn't see them looking to acquire a vet (especially re-acquiring one) and their assets are a bit more than what I'd guess our young players could pull. I think things could get interesting if Snyder decides he wants to bring in a Mack or a Scott though...

Millsap for Favors? I'd be thrilled but don't think Utah fans would like it much...

I got it!

Assistant coach with HC experience, played PG in the pros, won a Championship under Pop (and Budenholzer...sort of). Led his team to an NBA Finals appearance as a coach. Can help prep Dennis (or Kyrie!) through the rigors of being a championship caliber PG.

Avery Johnson. He's probably not getting another HEAD coaching gig anytime soon, but his overall record was solid (254-186). As a long time player in this league, he knows how to prepare on a game-by-game basis.

He's my dream choice to replace Quin.

Also this:

Darvin Ham will coach the Hawks in the Las Vegas Summer League next month.
General manager Danny Ferry told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Saturday that the plan is for the assistant coach to assume the duties. Quin Snyder coached the Hawks’ summer league team last year. He was hired as head coach of the Jazz Friday

Not enamored with Ham leading Summer League. He never struck me as cerebral during his playing days.

Things are not looking good. Now we're about to lose Coach Ham to Utah also.

The Hawks could be on the verge of losing another assistant coach. According to Jody Genessy of the Deseret News, there is interest from the Jazz in Darvin Ham "to be Quin Snyder's top assistant, maybe associate head coach."
Snyder left the Hawks last week for the head coach positition with the Jazz.
Hawks general manager Danny Ferry declined Wednesday to say whether any NBA team had ask for or was granted permission to speak to current assistant coaches.

We're getting hit hard. We lose both of Bud's top assistants, I'm not sure he can recover from that easily at this point in his young career.

Looks like we won't need to replace Ham after all.

At least we'll have some semblance of stability on the coaching staff this year.
