Dan Johnson is having a heck of a season with an OPS of .945 in 265 plate appearances. Alas, there's nowhere for him to play with the big club. If I'm him I'm looking for a trade right about now to a team with less 1B/DH/power bat off the bench depth.

well that's tad bit deceiving isn't it, hitting .271 is worthless when you're drawing no walks and you literally have no power.

I was always skeptical of him but there was an outside chance he could be backup but this year's numbers ugly, i don't see a future at all for him.

Ha, Deck survived and got the win. Not a high quality start, to be sure. That first inning a bit of the old bad-inning syndrome, but he only allowed one more run the next four innings.

Top 5 pitching prospects in no order: Stroman, Sanchez, Norris, Hoffman, Reid-Foley? Or does someone else sneak in there? Maybe Osuna.

I think he's still got some potential as a starter, especially when I look around the MLB at what plays.

I agree the .271 is empty right now, but I didn't even expect he was hitting at least that well, thats more so why I brought it up.
That's what she said.

That looks about right. I'd have Reid-Foley, Tirado and Osuna as contenders for the 5th spot.

The system's in pretty good shape on the pitching front. There's a lot less depth on the positional player front. My top five would include Pompey, Lugo, Nay, Dean, and Guerrero. Not a single guy above A ball (though Mike Crouse is having an intriguing year in New Hampshire and is still only 23).

If you're including Hoffman in the top 5 list, you have to include Osuna. Even though Osuna's on the shelf similar to Hoffman, he was pretty dominant in the MWL as an 18 year old. At least he was before the initial signs of injury. I think Reid-Foley needs to show a little something before he's considered in the top 5 pitching prospects. I don't mind including Hoffman as much because of his projection pre-injury and his ability to move quickly through the system when he returns.

AJ Jimenez who is now catcher #1 with Kratz up is hitting at .271 clip.

Kratz is no longer on our back catcher depth chart,,we are just keeping him up with the big club as a late inning subsitution for speed on the bases......

Speaking of catchers, a favourite of Dagger's - Derrick Chung is having himself a game 3-3 with a pair of doubles through 6 innings. D-Jays are up 10-1

a few comments from BP on Pompey and Aaron Sanchez
On Pompey Craig Goldstein says he's a prospect on the rise.
-Shorter to the ball from the left side
-Speed borders on plus plus
-Undervalued due to injuries

On Sanchez Ben Carsley
- Propsect on decline
- Control and command is not improving
- High risk know when to cut bait
- Give him another year in rotation to try to figure it out if he doesn't then 'bullpen' chatter will emerge

Sanchez has been promoted to AAA, according to Davidi.

Definitely in line with my thinking that Sanchez, and not someone from outside the organization, will be in the big league rotation post-trade deadline.

Gotta figure that today will be Norris' last start at A+ then. Although Cole, Norris and Boyd (again) are all worthy of being bumped up to AA.

Are you still considered a "prospect" if your up with the big league club and a regular in the rotation?

Generally considered a prospect until you've cracked the 50 IP threshold, which is when rookie eligibility is exhausted.

Which is all true, but a guy starting at the big league level and playing well enough to stick can obviously be considered as a guy destined to graduate and you can make the list with or without him. Let's say who will the top 5 be at year's end? Sanchez, Norris, and Hoffman are top 3 and even going down for TJ wouldn't knock any of them off. Osuna goes 4th if he comes back, pitches, and looks anything like his former self, regardless of outcomes IMO.

Fifth is way up for grabs as short season hasn't even started yet. I like the Reid-Foley sign, but I don't think you have to automatically slot him ahead of quite a few guys. I think with Hollon down and the Lansing guys not looking hot (yet, fingers crossed) he's probably the frontrunner, but a hot second half for DeJong or Tirado could get them into 5th (I should probably give Gabryzswski love). Likewise a guy like Smoral waking up in short season might push him back up the chart, similar to what happened with Norris.

All I mean to say is there's a top 3 tier after Stroman graduates. I like Osuna enough to slot him behind them as long as it doesn't look like the surgery broke his arm. And while Reid-Foley is the shiniest new piece, I don't automatically slot him ahead of the rest of the pack of arms before their season's have even really begun.

edit: didn't see the VAN roster earlier, Tirado or Labourt could dominate at VAN and get 5th consideration.
