Rick Fox: Kobe might end his career with Knicks

Post#1 » by jrhjus » Tue Jun 10, 2014 6:40 pm

Rick Fox said he could see Kobe leaving to chase rings
http://www.insidesocal.com/lakers/2014/ ... he-lakers/
We all know that Kobe is super competitive but would he really do this? No one will take that contract if he wanted a trade so the ring chase would have to happen in two years. Can anyone picture an old Kobe coming off the bench for 20 mins a night? Doesn't he have way too much pride for that. Even though he wants to match MJ I image he'd retire a Laker before embarrassing his legacy and giving his own version of MJ's wizards years.

Knicks would need to make playoffs 1st before they think bout having old stars "chase rings" there. As for Fox, dont be surprise to see him on the Knick staff soon and wouldn't surprise me one bit if Knicks repeat last season failures once they resign Melo.

So does Kobe demand a trade to the Knicks? I dont think he does.

Kobe's made it abundantly clear he's all-in for the Lakers' brass.

But I welcome any team in the East to become a rival to Miami.

How would you feel if he did? Personally, I don't think I'd care too much at this point.

I've always been a LAL first guy, though... Didn't miss any sleep over the Shaq trade either.

Obviously depends on what we'd get in return, and what we'd have to look forward to, but part of me would always feel crappy about it. The dude should and will retire with the Lakers. Yeah, it's a shame his contract is what it is, but IMO this does provide a counterpoint to so many elite teams begging players to take less while the owners turn and sell their stakes for absurd prices.

ALL NY has to offer at this moment are Chanlder, Amare, Bargani and I guess their trump card of Tim Hardaway. None of those names make us better next season. I'd take my chances with 36yr old Kobe over all 4 of those players combined.

Call me crazy but I think their is traction to this. Kobe has always made it known that he loves New York and Chicago. These would be the only markets/teams he would be interested in joining. Would not be shocked if Kobe asked management "do we really have any shot at winning a championship within the next few years or are you guys rebuilding". Could see Mitch being honest with Kobe. Makes sense. Kobe agrees to only be traded to Knicks. We take back Amare (for his contract), Shumpert, and Felton. Continue to rebuild while letting Amare and Shump expire as well as Felton and we are on to something. Knicks get Kobe while resigning Melo and keeping Tyson to contend in the weak east.

Oh, I'd feel bad about it... But that badness would be directed at Kobe for demanding the trade (no-trade clause)... Not at the Lakers for trading him... I guess I should have clarified...
But at this stage in his career, I don't think I could be very mad at him.

Amare-toast, Felton-might be going to jail, Shumper-overrated and 2 knee surgeries in 2 years...yea we'll be onto something alright, onto repeating last season

Don't think you get it......these players wouldn't be impact players for us to win. They would be a part of the rebuilding process. Once their contracts are up we have more cap space. No one on the knicks outside of Melo can save us  . We would continue to work toward rebuilding through Free Agency and drafts. Obviously throw in future unprotected first round picks from the Knicks in the trade as well.

you can do that w/o trading for those bums. Kobe contract only hinders Lakers abillity to sign multiple MAX FA....but who the hell want to sign on with a team devoid of any other star players?

Unfortunately this question is the same whether we do the trade or not  . We are in a dismal state that hopefully ends soon. I would like to keep Kobe but I am not against letting the man having a chance to grab a ring if he so desires elsewhere. He deserves it. Obviously you want more back for Kobe but Kobe can veto any trade he doesn't desire. So that leaves us.....with nothing.

IF Kobe thinks him/melo and rest of NY core is winning anything then more power to him

I honestly always thought Kobe would end up Dallas for some reason.
