Wiggins won't come in and average 18-20 in the first season.
Parker is expected to do that.
Yeah but it also talked about fit and they already have Bennett who is a tweener, and Thompson at PF. They have scoring in Kyrie and in Waiters off the bench. They need a wing defender especially if Deng departs. I just really think it ends up being Wiggins #1, Parker #2, Embiid #3.

The other nugget was that Gilbert was negotiating hard with Calipari to be head coach because that presumably is who LeBron might want as his coach.

What I think is ironic is for all the talk of how Cleveland (and even Milwaukee) has to win now and they need that immediate impact player, I think 20 minutes of Embiid will help more next season than 30 minutes of Parker or Wiggins, particularly if you're Cleveland.

That's something I never truly understood as far as Milwaukee's perspective. Our owners have said it's a 3-5 year process. I hope they don't do anything to try and compete next season. Just wondering when the national media will catch on that we are officially rebuilding and not trying to compete for 8th seeds.

Ford seems to be one of the few out there that are still clinging to the notion that Milwaukee has to win-now. Maybe he's right, but that goes against everything we've heard for the last few months.

If the love for Parker is true I think that it stems from believing he's the safest bet to be a core contributor in 3-5 years. Rather than take the risk on Wiggins or Embiid's back and potentially prolong a rebuild, perhaps the owners believe their plan has the best chance to come to fruition by starting with Jabari as the foundation.

paulpressey25 wrote:Mary Schmitt Boyer was on with Ted the other day. MSB is not necessarily plugged in, but does an ok job of covering the Cav's. The only real takeaway I got from it is that Dan Gilbert is every bit as nuts and controlling as certain other owners we know, and that nothing the Cav's do would surprise her. She thought they may still actively try to trade the pick if a Kevin Love type deal was out there.
He is an egotistical, power-hungry guy. You could tell that in the letter he wrote after Lebron left acting like he owned him. I think there is some Sterling there.
Ownership is for life, and he's been hell-bent on reclaiming what's his (LeBron) for a long time. What else was signing Bynum and Deng on 1-year deals all about? It's not like that was their window to win with their current roster. He wanted Lebron to sign and then the Cavs could go over the cap to keep the others and give him his poor man's version of a super-team. Now that he's invested all that time and money in the strategy, don't think he's done on the eve of Lebron potentially being a free agent. Parker, Wiggins, nor Embiid are going to entice Lebron. I do think Gilbert tries heavily to procure a veteran like Love, even though extending him is far from a guarantee. Gilbert will throw another #1 away on a whim. He's done it before, and thinks the universe will bring him another anyway because of how special a guy he is. Darn, we were so close to enjoying years of bliss with the Brewers under this guy's direction.
BTW, if the Cavs do trade the pick, I think it's likely the team who acquires it doesn't take Embiid, and it'll have nothing to do with his back. A lot of the teams who logically could trade with the Cavs have strong center situations. The Wolves are one of them with Pek/Dieng. I've suggested myself the Cavs and Pistons should get together for a deal involving Drummond. That way the Cavs would be set up even if LeBron doesn't come back, and the Pistons would get a #1 + Greg Monroe back at the position which actually suits him. Then if Embiid falls to the Bucks because one of these things happen, I'd hope Lasry and Edens would realize the back wasn't the cause, and snap him up.

^^^^^I think the only package of assets that would make sense for the Cav's is Kevin Love. That's the marquee win-now guy that is on the market.
I'm not sure though that a team trading up for that pick takes Wiggins or Parker. I think you trade into the #1 spot because you want Embiid.
ETA: A historical precedent might be when the 76'ers dealt the #1 overall in 1986 (Brad Daugherty) to the Wizards for Jeff Ruland and Cliff Robinson, because the 76'er's impatient owner wanted to continue their winning and didn't want to rebuild. That deal killed the 76'ers, although in the long-run Daugherty's back gave out, forcing him to retire after about 6-7 great seasons.

I know it is hard for some to understand, especially the Embiid die hards...but keep in mind, it is possible that people see Parker, and fully expect him to be better in 1,3,5 and 10 years than Embiid and Wiggins.
I am not saying that to pick a fight, but it seems like a few folks out there think that anyone that doesn't see Embiid as the best has some kind of ulterior motive. It could just be people see some very rare skill sets in guys like Parker which lead them to think he is the most special player in this draft.

Re: Official #2 Pick Thread - Ford #7: Parker
^^^^ (up thru the previous guy's post who made some points I will) There is more than one way to skin a cat. Drummond has reverence around the league at this point, and would be with them well beyond this LeBron courting period. But the Pistons may not want to part with him, although I think they should because you have to give up something to get something, and in this case it would be 2 somethings with the #1 pick and Monroe.
And with the #1 pick these teams are just not going to take a redundant player, especially not the T-Wolves. They went thru that with Kahn. I think you are projecting your preferences now that your drunkenness has worn off from watching the Wiggins' workout. Teams have their fits, Embiid his back questions, and even before them he was #1 but hardly the consensus.

Re: Official #2 Pick Thread - Ford #7: Parker
If Cleveland really wants to win now, I'd see what I could get from Orlando
#1, Jack, Gee for #4, Affalo, Vuvecic....or maybe swap out Jack/Gee for Varejo
Worse case scenario, you end up with your choice of Exum/Smart/Vonleh...and maybe you get lucky and Embiid slides a bit over back concerns...
Even if the value is off, I could see them trading down to acquire some win now type pieces plus keep a quality draft pick.

Lebron is chasing the Jordan/Kobe championship legacy. Cleveland will never get him back unless they somehow acquire two top 10 players to play with him. Lebron's going to put himself in the best position to win a championship. He probably won't even go back to Akron/Cleveland when he retires. Keep dreaming Cleveland.

Re: Official #2 Pick Thread - Ford #7: Parker
Lebron to a Knicks superteam? If the Knicks could make room, I could see that happening. I don't think Lebron would go out unless he joined the best team. The East presents the easiest path to the Finals. It's a good tactical move to stay there and let the teams in the West beat themselves up.

If Cleveland flipped that 1st for Drummond and let's say converted the mush of TT, Bennet, Waiters into a pretty solid SG, let's say Klay Thompson for sake of the argument.
Would you rather play with
Chalmers, Aging Wade, Bosh, Birdman and whatever else is there
or
Irving, Klay, Drummond core?
Not saying he would do it, because odds are he will just recruit the next star to Miami when Wade is done but that would be a damn interesting core.

I get the interest in Embiid. What makes no sense to me at all is the current line of thinking from some which says Embiid is the only possible No. 1 pick and anyone who thinks it should be Wiggins or Parker is an idiot.

I think it would take Anthony Davis and another star to get Lebron back to Cleveland. I don't see Drummond and Irvin as the level of stars that would pry Lebron out of Miami. I think he uses south beach as a recruitment tool. Miami is his desired location imo.

Right now, I see Jabari going #1. I "think" Cleveland should take Embiid.
