This thought has just sunk into me... where is this team headed? its seems like the direction is going oldschool hence the coaching criteria... obviously we are in a transitional phase. there are still a lot of uncertainties. but with the way things are going in new york, it seems like phil is laying the foundation for his own version of the Lakers in the form of the Knicks. am i the only one thats bothered by this? it feels like having your chef leaving you to start his own restaurant with your recipes.
So what's our identity going to be like moving forward? Beyond phil's era, i have little knowledge of the Lakers' playstyle (eg showtime). lots of ball movement, inside out game, fastbreaks... is that what management is trying to revert back into? Any thoughts on what is to be expected?
i guess Fisher going to new york triggered this anxiety and with phil's plan/triangle paving the way to revitalize that team, is it just me or does it feel like they have more promise than us right now? :S
All this waiting for the new coach, the draft, our roster, and kobe's health really sucks. lol. :S

Can't have an identity with no players or coaching staff... Right now the identity of the Lakers is patience...
Both with regard to the immediate future, as well as for the next couple years most likely.

All we can do is wait and see. Fans have to get acclimated to something called patience and REBUILDING. We have been spoiled for quite some time and the new CBA just does not allow you to do things you could do years ago.

Hiring Byron Scott with the coaches they are letting go to other NBA orgs., Being crippled by Kobe, and stinking for two years.

Championship or Bust!
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Re: Where's the Lakers headed?
The vision for the Lakers was, is and always well be... Championship Caliber. Dr. Buss said it best: the Lakers don't rebuild, they re-load.
This last season was not a rebuilding year - it was purposefully a deconstruction year. I'm not sure why the media can't understand that this year was a success in the eyes of the Lakers... they needed a lottery pick. Not just for the player, but for the asset.
They have Nash's expiring and cap space too.
I'm just saying - don't be surprised by anything. The team will be bold, we might fall on our face again... but we will swing for the fences always.

Re: Where's the Lakers headed?
To be honest this team has been a mess coaching wise outside of Phil & Riley since Dr. Buss took over and its been even worse since Jimmy & Mitch started hiring coaches.
Rudy T - got off the wagon
Mike Brown - Too stupid
Mike D - Misfit roster and lack of direction
Naturally, looking at the current candidates it doesn't fill me with great optimism either.

Re: Where's the Lakers headed?
There was an article on RealGM the other day --- Mitch is in no rush to find our new coach because he wants to see who's available to draft and sign via Free Agency.
IMO, it's simple. Draft the best player available (realistically our pick will be one of Randle, Gordon, Smart, Vonleh, LaVine or McDermott) and then try to sign free agents who aren't the same position.
My #1 choice is Marcus Smart because this team needs a PG (I wouldn't want to sign a 29-year old Lowry to a big contract). From there, try to bring Pau back for cheap and throw offers at Monroe/Deng.
Get JVG or Byron Scott to coach.
