England will win 2014 World Cup, says Germany's biggest bank
http://www.theguardian.com/business/201 ... k-analysts
In what could be the biggest shock at this year's World Cup since news that the Arena de São Paulo might be finished before kick-off, England are predicted to win in Brazil – and the prophecy comes from Germany's biggest bank.
Foreign exchange analysts at Deutsche Bank have developed a computer model that forecasts Roy Hodgson's squad can see off challenges by several more fancied outfits – albeit by using some questionable metrics.
"England are among the best teams according to our static model," the research stated. "The history of World Cup winning runs suggest that England is among the teams that could win this World Cup.
"Within this group of teams, England is the only one that has won a World Cup and not reached another final. And the last time England had so many Liverpool players in the team, it won. Therefore, we are confident that England will win this World Cup."

Don't ask me how, but I've got Costa Rica finishing 2nd behind Italy.
I think Joel Campbell is going to shock some folks.

i would bet on uruguay far before costa rica. uruguay has like 100x more talent and arguably the best striker duo in Suarez/Cavani.

Re: 2014 FIFA World Cup: Group D (URA/CRC/ENG/ITA)
Uruguay are the best team in the group, closely followed by Italy and then England. I don't mean to completely rule them out because crazier things have happened, but it's very unlikely Costa Rica will proceed imo.
And lol @ that article. We're bad enough already, don't need any more jinxing from the Germans.
Can you imagine a Roy Hodgson squad actually winning the World Cup? He'd retire and fly home to the woods, never to be seen again. All future World Cups would be canceled due to every other team being so embarrassed for losing to a team with Phil Jones in it.

I think the crazy thing about this group is any of the 3 could go 1-2.

England's training ground looks better than the pitch they'll play Italy on.

I'm stunned at how trash the pitch looks. That wouldn't be acceptable in 3rd division Greek soccer.

Despite the pending tears, I'm so bloody excited.
COME ON ENGLAND. I think we pull a shocker and beat Italy 2-0, draw with Uruguay, and win narrowly against Costa Rica 1-0.

Think Verratti can be the x factor here

Re: 2014 FIFA World Cup: Group D (URA/CRC/ENG/ITA)
Im shocked at the votes for Uruguay.
Its my team and im not so confident as most of you lol. With Suarez not 100% we will struggle a bit i think.
Lugano is declining as well, i hope Godin and Caceres can make up for it.
Midfield is what concerns me the most, defensive midfield was always our strenght but now between Arevalo and Gargano we are very short and not so good, difference in height can make a huge difference for Italy and England there.
Hopefully Italy and Uruguay qualify, sucks the two countries i support are in same group!

I'd be absolutely shocked if Italy go through. England have looked very good recently.

I'd be shocked if England go through. A draw between them and Italy would not surprise me, though.
De Sciglio is out for Italy so Chiellini may start at left back...something which hasn't been a good idea since '07.
history lesson: they last met in a WC in 1990's third place match, where Italy won at home 2-1. Juve's Baggio and Schillacci scored for Italy, and Platt (who would sign for Juve a couple years later) for England

yes hopefully hes only out 1 game because he is imo one of the best full backs at the world cup. this is where not taking Criscito is going to hurt us.
