"People said I was going to play in a Mickey Mouse league," Cesar said. "But I can say that the US league in the past few years has passed that of Brazil in terms of attendance - for my first game we had 45,000 people in the stadium. The US league is enjoying huge growth. I conceded nine goals (in seven games) so that was very annoying."

Nice to see him promoting the league.

Wow didn't realize the reputation was that bad.

Is he right about huge growth? Or any growth?

It's not exactly a bad rep, but likely one that is very misinformed.

MLS is a tough league filled with young and up and coming players mixed with world class veterans from around the world. It's also getting tougher and tougher to win every year.

The league is also experiencing huge growth from 13 teams in 2007 to 23 teams by 2018. By 2022 they hope to be one of the biggest leagues in the world competing within the top 5 or 6 leagues in the world.

It's got a long way to go, but watching it every season I can see it improving with every game. I hope more people give it a chance, because it's a fun league to follow.

This is like hoping the Euroleague will one day be able to compete with the NBA - which will never be the case.

With money you might convince a few guys to come over. But the show will always be in Europe & South America. The players in the MLS will never get the same recognition they get when playing in Europe or in Copa Libertadores - just like Euroleague player never get worldwide recognition.

Look at it that way. The top EL teams could certainly compete for the playoffs. I bet half of the non-European people on this board would say they get destroyed by the Milwaukee Bucks.

The difference is the Euroleague isn't trying to compete with the NBA. MLS is actively trying to be one of the best leagues in the world.

Will they ever be number one? No. But being in the top 6 is something that is achievable I think for a league that is very well funded. By 2022 I think the soccer landscape will look very different.

How will people react if Neymar dominates tomorrow?
Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, Toni Kroos, Pep Guardiola, Ernst Happel, Joachim Löw.

MLS might have the funding (although it really doesn't, comparatively speaking), but it doesn't have the history or the culture. For this reason, it will never be anything more than a bottom tier league.

With that said, the American sporting model (which includes MLS) is a million times better than anything in Europe. It's such a joy watching 5 teams hoard 90% of the world's football talent! MLB doesn't have a salary cap, but there are processes in place that allow even the smallest markets to compete. In Europe there is no such thing.

Brazil is going to make a statement out of the Croats.

The pressure will be high for Brazil tonight. Wonder if that will affect them. Rakitic on one side and Neymar on the other. Can't wait!

Does anyone know if FIFA or ESPN or anyone will be streaming the games online?

I'd love to be able to catch the game on my phone if possible.

Thanks but I forgot to mention I am Canadian and we don't get stuff like that up here... unless the CBC/TSN has it on their app? Anybody know?

Yeah this sucks this will be the first time I actually have a job during the World Cup(in 2010 I had graduated college and was actually in South Africa for a couple weeks and 2006 I had graduated HS and quit my job to watch every game LOL). I think we'll have a TV on in the break room that will be showing the games all day but I'd love to be able to watch on the PC while I "work."

Anyway...Brazil wins in a rout today. 3-1.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Where were you during the previous olympics? CBC or CTV has been streaming these world events in hd for awhile now.
Looking for a new signature. Currently, still evaluating.

I prefer to watch sports. Something about running to a white line while jumping over hurdles, just doesn't really do it for me...
