Sanchez in 2014? Why not, says Gibbons.

Tonight, D. Norris faced his bizarro-world twin, N. Dorris. Like D. Norris, N. Dorris is tall and left-handed. Unlike D. Norris, N. Dorris gives up runs.

5IP D. Norris gave up no runs. 1 hit. 2BB. 3K

Pompey two for three with a pair of stolen bases.

Is this grad night for those two?

They did clinch the first half win and playoff spot tonight. Although, maybe they'll keep them around for the ASG on Saturday.

Jays get Chambers for Solarte and Dupont.
The Toronto Blue Jays made a depth move Thursday, acquiring outfielder Adron Chambers from the Houston Astros for left-hander Alejandro Solarte and infielder Will Dupont. The move gives the Blue Jays another outfield option in triple-A.

Can anyone comment on either Chambers or Solarte?

I had a friend in high school named Jason Bergman. We never knew he was going by his second name, Jason, but that his first name was really Peter. i.e.. Peter Jason Bergman.

The yearbook in his grade 11 year managed to out his true identity, combining his actual name with a typo: Jason Bergman was labelled "Peter Nergman".

Where are you now, Peter Nergman!!!! lol

(not that he could pitch, or anything)

It's a slightly odd one. I don't know much about Solarte, but he has the frame and apparently good command. Chambers is 27, signed as a minor league FA this off-season with the Astros, and has proceeded to do nothing in AAA. It's probably a nothing-for-nothing deal, but Solarte's the only player with even an outside chance to be relevant.

I'm surprised at the Sanchez promotion. By all accounts the stuff plays in the bigs already, but the control is lacking. I would have preferred to see him make strides in his control in AA before a promotion. That said, maybe they think the pitching coach in AAA can help him out more than the one in AA. There's so much more that goes into these decisions than we as fans are aware of.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

57 strikeouts, 40 walks, 66 innings. Doesn't seem like the kind of line that should get a pitcher a promotion, but maybe they think it will motivate him.

Guessing it's a coaching move to get him under the tutelage of Randy St. Claire and his couple decades of experience.

The Jays seem to have issues with simply getting guys to throw the ball over the plate: Sanchez, Drabek, Romero, Delabar...

Baseball teams in general have issues with getting guys to throw the ball over the plate. The minor leagues -- and in many cases, the majors -- are littered with guys with all of the timing on release of a 16 year old losing his virginity.

So if you brought Dave Duncan or Leo Mazzone or (insert greatest pitching coach of all time) in here, would they be able to do anything? Or is it just a matter of the pitchers not understanding or having the capability to follow the instructions?

They might be able to help, sure. Ultimately it does come down to the player, though; Duncan is probably the best pitching coach of the past couple decades, yet it was under his tutelage that one of the biggest pitching crash-and-burns of that era took place.

Haha, it seems like being a registered mental health professional should be a requirement on a pitching coach's resume, sometimes. That performance by Rick Ankiel in the playoffs, is something I'll never forget.

North America's second-favourite sufferer of dwarfism (Peter Dinklage is pretty well untouchable atop the leaderboard) hit his 16th homer in roughly 200 plate appearances. Ryan Schimpf seems to be the sort of player who'll likely always be a minor leaguer, but good golly is he a hitter at the AA level.

Seems like he should be up in AAA, even if he is a fringy prospect. Checking the box scores every day and he seems like he's knocking out homers almost all the time of late.

His peripherals remind of Kelly Johnson.

The Sanchez promotion, IMO, is a combination of wanting him to work with St. Claire and wanting him to be an option for the big league rotation later in the year. I don't think the team can count on Morrow at this point, and the only AAA options that might be able to fill-in at the big league level are Liam Hendriks and probably Deck McGuire. It will be interesting to see how Sanchez does in a higher level.
