I have a suspicious feeling that England will finally get it together and pound Italy.

For some reason this England seems like they could make some noise. They have low expectations, some talented young players and pieces that actually fit together unlike previous England squads that never seemed to gel.

Buffon will be probably out tonight. Genoa's Mattia Perin (21) is ready to substitute him.

I'm probably going to windward.. but that's a good new for the Italian side!

hmm why did we call him up then.

i think perin will be fine but i would be worried if chiellini is at left back.

man, the Italy lineup remains the world's biggest mystery. Buffon has yet to be entirely ruled out, as far as i know, and Sirigu picked up a rib injury last week and was expected to miss the first game.
However, he'll probably be rushed back, seeing as Perin never played in goal for Gli Azzurri...besides last week's warmup vs Fluminese where he looked very shaky.

Doormatt, you are right about the Criscito omission. De Sciglio's injury would be a non issue if he were on the squad. Chiellini at left back has never worked.

Would Prandelli seriously let us take the pitch with a back four of Darmian, Barzagli, Palleta, Chiellini ??? That is what I keep reading.
England is certainly better than they were 2 years ago..... Darmian/Palletta/Chiellini at LB? I need to start drinking now.

Sterling for Rooney. Sturridge up top, Lallana on the right, Sterling in a free central role, and Welbeck to man mark Pirlo.

Come on England!

3-1 with Sturridge scoring twice and Sterling netting a screamer.

I'd bet on a draw (1-1 or even 0-0)... Italy usually starts slowly in the great tournaments while England is nothing special...
