NENE FOR JOSH SMITH STRAIGHT UP

Nene seems clearly the more impactful player minute for minute. He was a key in Washington's playoff victory and is a high basketball IQ big who plays both ends of the floor. On the downside, he doesn't play volume minutes anymore, he's about 3 years older and he can't play on a front line with Monroe and Drummond as a SF (though that didn't work well for Smith either). Sometimes he disappears and gets passive.

Smith is younger, more athletic, and capable of playing 30+ mpg. He's an extremely active defender and will run the court with Wall (or Jennings) more easily than Nene. On the downside, he's been in the league a while and is still making the same dumb decisions so he's unlikely to develop into a high IQ player. He will play you out of games at times.

Both are signed for appreciably more than they are worth; Smith is probably worth more on the open market but his contract runs an extra year.

Straight up swap might benefit both teams.

Need to find a 3rd team to take Nene and trade a perimeter player to Detroit. If we can't find a better trade then this isn't bad but certainly not a 1st option.

Agreed. I'd like to get Otto Porter out of the deal too.

Dallas wants to upgrade the center position and will have plenty of cap space to absorb contracts if the right deal came along. Maybe they'd take on Nene and his contract while sending us back only Dalembert and Ellington.

No

Pistons aren't trading Smith for nothing. Get a third team involved and get us a starting caliber 3, then let's talk. 8-)

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=potfnl9

DET trades: Josh Smith, Will Bynum
BOS trades: Gerald Wallace, Brandon Bass, Keith Bogans, #6 pick

Boston turns a bunch of deadweight contracts into a very talented player who's close friends with Rondo. Also, they maintain their cap flexibility, allowing them to potentially reunite Gordon Hayward and Brad Stevens. If they could keep Avery Bradley too, they'd be a very interesting team to watch in the East.

We can waive Bogans since his deal isn't guaranteed and work on a buyout of Wallace. Bass, however, would be a great 3rd big to play behind Drumroe. And obviously, a draft pick that would possibly net us either Smart or Exum would be awesome.

No way Boston gives up the 6th, Maybe take out Bass and Bogans and we could do it for the 17th.

Replace 6 with 17 & they might actually do it.

Sully/KO, Smith, Green, ??? (maybe Hayward), Rondo

With Sully/KO, #6 & Bradley off the bench...

Interesting

TOR: Jennings
NYK: Fields
DET: Novak, Felton
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yeah, you can put in a pack Oladipo, Harris, Vucevic, Afflalo, Harkless and 3 future first rounds for Monroe. Seems legit.

I'll be honest, the trades coolness posts baffle me. Trading 11 future picks in one summer? What?

 , I realize you think it's too much but it's really not. Afflalo is leaving them this year and they are not going to get much value because he will be a FA and is 28 now. Harkless is a backup for them that won't ever start there over Harris. Neither one of these guys are worth Monroe so they would need to throw in a 2016 first rounder to get it done. Then they draft Exum and just replace Harkless with James Young with the 12th pick.

You got a little common sense in your words, but could you imagine a paint with Monroe and Vucevic? 60 points of the opponents per night at least. And anyway, the S&T's doesn't work like that if you're not sending a star player, you always get so much less than that.

Yeah but how often do teams just let go of really good 24 year old bigs as a RFA? Monroe is a rare case that a team will have to offer up or else we will match. You don't see young RFAs of his caliber just being let go for crap.

Carmelo is opting out and CHI/HOU are frontrunners to sign him, but they need to clear capspace. The Bulls are said to be ready to amnesty Boozer and dump Gibson for capspace.

The Pistons should get in on this if Gibson is available for nothing. Gibson at 7 mil/yr > Monroe at 14 mil/yr.

They basically produce the same and Gibsons skillset fits better than Monroe's in every facet. So a better fit at Pf for hallf the price would be amazing. Then they can trade Monroe for whatever or just let him walk knowing they already have a replacement.

HOU also needs to dump salary and are looking to move Asik/Lin but I don't see a need for them. Gibson would be a great pickup though. He fits perfect in Stan's system and is also very similar to David West (who Bower had in NO) so this could be a good first move for the new regime.

Return to Detroit Pistons
