Mills value? Update: Resigned 3 years 12 mill

Post#1 » by nurseryc » Fri Jun 13, 2014 11:23 am

Mills has become an integral part of our lineup excelling offensively and defensively in his 6th man role. He is having a great finals proving he can flat out ball. Is Mills the best 6th man in the league right now and what sort of money will we need to pay to secure him?

well we only have x amount to offer if we resign the other guys and i highly doubt we'd offer the market value for him. I like to think he'd stay because he knows he'll be getting paid regardless, just a bit less than what he'd get somewhere else, also because he's fitted into the spurs system so well.

As for best 6th man i'd say not quite. He can still be terribly streaky at times but after last night i'm inclined to think that he's certainly upped his game. He looked well rounded, was dropping his shots and looked calm also.

He isn't even really our 6th man that role still belongs to Manu.

He's a great backup, i'd give him around 4-5 mill per.

Good comparison to JJ Barea, he got 19 for 4 years, which appears to be too much. I think Mills would want to stay and play championship ball for 4 mil. We also need Boris back.

In all honesty, I don't think Mills is worth 4M a year. I think the Spurs system really makes him look better than he really is. Of course, he's a pretty good back-up to have, but not at 4M/yr. I'd say 2-3M/yr sounds about right.

It all depends on if he desires to be a starter and get paid starter money in this league. He's not starting here as long as Parker is around. I'm sure the organization will lay that out for him but I'm sure he already knows that. I've thought all season that he would be gone next year but the thing with Pop honoring his heritage like that really moved him. If he is content with his role here he will be welcomed back I'm sure. If he wants to start somewhere, someone will pay him.

I'm 90% confident Mills will be back.

He will be loyal to the organisation that built his career and also know his minutes will increase.

Unless some stupid team threw crazy money at him, he'll be here.

He is better than Gary Neal, but we all know what happens to most Spurs role players when they leave. I'm sure Patty is intelligent enough to make the right move.

gary neal and rojer just b4 patty failed cause pop turn them sharpshooters into ballhandling pgs cause he wasted all his draft picks on backup pgs who ended up busts...

the only thing mills has over those 2 former players is that he plays defense, those 2 other clowns cant even defend a plastic pylon

This guy's real streaky, or maybe it's cuz of the defense: he shot 57% from deep in the finals, 26% against OKC, 57% against Portland, 26% against the Mavs.

He really came up huge the last two games tho.

Around 3 mil sounds about right.

I'm surprised you're not calling out how Parker's subs bail him out?

Before Finals, I pegged him at 3 mil per year like what Gary Neal got from the Bucks and what Marco signed for in San Antonio. But I'm sure his value just skyrocketed after the Finals. My guess is that someone will offer him 5 mil a year JJ Barea type money.

I think the Spurs max out at 4 mil for Patty and he'll resign. But if the Spurs insist on giving Patty 3 mil like they did with Gary, then I'm guessing he'll walk.

Players will take less when they're starters, but I'm not so sure about backups. Add that he's young, and he hasn't been paid at all his whole career, this is his chance to cash in. His value is at an all time high.

I hope we get him back and keep the rotation in tact. Go out for one more run.

I agree with co_laper, we max at 4 and he goes for it. Danny Green said he expects everyone back next year. I think our biggest need is going to be another "stretch 4" to upgrade over Bonner.

For whatever reason, I keep having this gut feeling that Paul Pierce will end up here. I don't want him though. I'm hoping for Andrei Kirilenko. Josh McRoberts. Marvin Williams. Or Charlie Villanueva. If we're talking about someone to replace Bonner, then it's most likely that he won't play much. So I'm not really sure that we'll be spending serious money for a Bonner replacement. Guys like AK, McRoberts will likely get more than 3 mil. Charlie V can be had and he's a stretch 4 type and should come in cheap. I just don't think he'll contribute much.

What I want is a young big man. This year, our 4th big man has been Jeff Ayres. Sometimes replaced by Aaron Baynes. They're Centers. So I'm thinking if we're going to spend money, then go get a Center that will actually get some playing time in the regular season. Most likely to play next to Diaw with the second unit. Give me Jordan Hill. I think he gives us a different dimension from our other bigs.

I love how this team manages to find bargain players who turn out to become big-time contributors in the playoffs.

Keep it up!

It probably helps that he's surrounded by Aussies in SA.

The team is really gonna miss his towel if he leaves.

Parker is getting old and needs some rest, they can play together for stretches too.

He is restricted?

Mills has done an amazing job for the Spurs. They should do everything they can to sign him. He is the perfect backup for Parker. Once Parker is too old the keys can be given to Patty.
