You tell just how close of a team they are. Love the reaction.

Pops just said in the presser that he never called any plays for Kawhi all series, just told him to go out and get it. Also said he plans on making him a much bigger part of the offense next year.

No offense meant to him at all but next step is for the team to get the kid some media lessons (many pro athletes do this). He needs to be able to string more than two words together now he is going to be in the spotlight.
As much as I love humble players and understand he is quiet and such, it's painful to watch his interviews :/
But yes, huge congrats. I don't think we could have done this without what he did in the last 3 games. Just amazing, especially considering his age, lack of experience (part of the lockout year remember) and slow start in games 1 and 2. He was honestly more aggressive offensively than James and defensively, the best a team could ask for on such an opponent.
Hope he follows in Duncan's footsteps and is a Spur for life.

Dude is just super shy and not concerned with the spotlight. I like it. It's a nice contrast to the media hungry "superstars" trying to build their brand.

Unbelievable! What bright future!
Thanks for the honesty.MorbidHEAT wrote:My dislike for Lin started during Linsanity. It was absurd. It's probably irrational dislike at this point, but man he gets on my nerves. He's been tearing us up though.

Yup.. I like his "shyness". It's like whenever he flashes a laugh or a smile, I smile with him. And it was just fun watching the celebration not only by the guys, but Kawhi's reaction to it. He was screaming and stuff as if he's in a rollercoaster in Disney World or something. I mean it was priceless. And I gotta admit, I shed a tear last night. So so proud of these Spurs.
And damn it felt good to end Miami's season in a blowout.
I'm now really excited to see what Kawhi looks like next season. The guy just won Finals MVP. His confidence can't get any higher. He should be even more offensive minded next season and we'll see if he can really take the next step into stardom.
The bar is raised for Kawhi now. Next year, he's got to make the all star team. Anything less is a disappointment.

I hope his personality never changes. He is the kind of person that is easy root for. The Spurs roster is full of good people like him.

I think you misunderstood where I was coming from. I don't want him to change his personality, I'm simply saying his media skills need work. Pro athletes get public speaking training, it's not uncommon. He struggles to even come up with basic vocabulary at times. I'm not saying he needs to be loud and outgoing, just more intelligent and confident. It's part of the package that comes with fame.
Also, it's a letdown to see him answer with an 'uh I don't really know' so often. He owes the fans more than that, shyness or not.
Same as I think Pop is insulting with his one word replies. He may think he is being his serious self or making an example of the fact he didn't agree with the introduction of interviewing coaches and players mid game, but that's the way it is and even Spurs fans would appreciate him making more of an effort.

Wow what an achievement!
Congrats to him, hope it's another Duncanesque relationship he has with the Spurs.

Ya I get what you're saying and it probably wouldn't be a good idea. But I despise the media so i'd like to Kawhi keep giving them absolutely nothing

This is what I was getting at also. I understand what you are saying. But I'm a basketball fan. I don't care if players ever talk to the media ever. I get my joy from watching the game and seeing what happens on the court. I don't care about media hype or expanding a brand. I don't care for the World Wrestling Federation type fan the NBA is wanting to attract. The media can go away and leave my basketball alone for all I care.

Re: Kawhi Leonard finals MVP 2014
The hate for Kawhi's FMVP has been pretty strong, and from all corners. KD has had his say, RGM GB dullards too. It's like if a non-"superstar" wins the FMVP they don't know what to do. It's too against the script for them to process. They're conditioned to seeing LeBron win when the Heat do, Kobe when the Lakers win etc.
But that goes against everything we are as a team. There are literally five or six guys that could claim to deserve this years FMVP. If we won last year, Danny Green was a good chance to win it.
I've seen thread where people ask if Kawhi is now a superstar, or if he will make the HOF. Too early for all that talk. He's a guy that played three great games at a time when we need that level of performance from someone. Happened to be him.
