I just dont understand it. I guess Im getting old.
Michael Jordan agrees with you.
Damn Jordan, you're now worth a billion and you can't get someone to buy you jeans that fit right.

Re: Off Topic VI
Big beer fan myself. Went to Wicked Weed a couple weeks ago and brought back a growler and some goodies. Gone to NoDa a bunch of times, and also visited Birdsong, Heist, Triple C and Unknown. Excited to check out some new kids on the block when they open.
Did you all hear that both NoDa and Birdsong are moving? Birdsong already has its location picked out, they're moving down North Davidson towards uptown to a warehouse right by that rose garden by the railroad tracks.
NoDa hasn't picked out a spot yet, will be very interesting to see if they try to stay in the neighborhood.

Duckworth Tavern has something like 60 beers on tap. Good food too.

I really am shocked that you weren't playing for the Heat this year. Look on the bright side, you're still younger than Greg Oden.
Liver_Pooty wrote:What kind of beer do you guys drink? I haven't drank in a few weeks, and have had 9 bud light platinums. Man, those things will mess you up in a hurry.
I haven't had a beer in 5 months thanks to this medicine I'm on. FML.
I prefer brown ales, oud bruins and basically anything Belgian. Reisch bier is something else, too.

Founder's BS and KBS are probably my two favorite stouts. Pretty much everything from Founder's brewing is great. Charlotte also has some really good breweries (NoDa, Triple C, Birdsong, etc...).
IPAs and stouts are exactly what we are missing. There is one small brewery that opened up recently and have them, to much acclaim. But other than that we don't have traditions in those types of beer. I, for one, haven't even drunk IPAs or stouts enough to have an opinion on them.
The US microbrew scene is soooooo over saturated with IPAs. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting 15 IPAs on any decent beer aisle. Stouts are good as long as they're kept simple IMO, people tend to get crazy with the mocha. A good Porter is really nice too.

Re: Off Topic VI
good news for charlotte radio today. colin hoggard (@colinWFNZ) is the host of the new 10am to noon show on WFNZ. he really knows his NBA and is a huge Hornets fan. many of the hosts in the past were either transplants who didnt really know much about the Bobcats/Hornets or weren't huge NBA fans, just enough to fake it on the radio. colin was watching and tweeting during nearly every game back when we were awful. most radio hosts couldnt be bothered to watch the team when we were bad. so many times in the past i cringe listening to some of those guys talk about the NBA. its nice to finally have someone on the air who i feel knows as much about the team and the league as we do. now if they could just fix that awful radio signal.

That's the one thing we do stand out with. With "we", I mean the whole Baltic region. Porters are our thing. And, yeah, I like them as well.

Re: Off Topic VI
I always see people list triple c and birdsong as some of their favorites but does anyone around here like Olde Mecklenburg's stuff? I love Captain Jack but I usually enjoy most of their lineup.
The only Noda drafts I've tried are ramble on red and woody & wilcox. I wasn't a fan, but I heard they won gold for Hop Drop'N Roll at the World Beer Cup.

Re: Off Topic VI
Not a fan of OMB's stuff - they're my least favorite Charlotte brewery. Not bad stuff, but boring stuff. To me they're very much the non-craft beer drinker's brewery in Charlotte.

Every OMB brew I've had tasted faintly metallic. I didn't care for that, but otherwise they were OK.
Do not like Birdsong.

Re: Off Topic VI
Interesting, I really only drink craft beer but concerning Charlotte breweries, I have not had any triple c or birdsong for some reason. I think I saw some triple c stuff at the Harris teeter on Central last time I was there. I guess I need to give them a try.
I enjoy the food at Heist but haven't had a beer that I really remembered the next time I came back. Give me some recommendations if ya want.

I used to hate Baltic porters and barley wines, and love hoppy stuff. Nowadays I can't get enough of the boozy heavy stuff and am so off of hoppy beers. Go figure.

Re: Off Topic VI
Can you name the top 5 players in MVP voting every year since 1960 in 9 minutes? I thought this was a lot of fun. I got 229/279 correct and didn't miss a single one in the last 30 years! I'm not too well-versed on pre-1985 NBA though.

oh yeah, I also love NBA quizzes on sporcle, my man.
got 276/279, Jerry Lucas, Lenny Wilkens and Connie Hawkins stumped me for the last 4 minutes. certainly weren't impossible players to remember, at the moment I thought that these three I can't remember will be more obscure and rather 60s guys.

276/279 is impressive. I got 245.
