the salary cap is projected to be $64 mil with the luxury tax at $77 mil. this years payroll for Miami was $74 mil and just looking into restructuring with viable contracts of available FA and for noteworthy players (Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Crawford), Miami can put together a really good team with almost the identical salary expense but greater talent IMO. the numbers look feasible, and based them on they're last years pay (to a degree).

steimsma is no c him and gooden would destroy our offense synergy. Rather have Linvigston instead of blake. Crawford is dumber than a rock , dalember would never play after what he did to us. The only one i like is vc.

Crawford is still a valued pick-up as he brings needed offense with a Wade decline. you have a small window to choose from when the money is limited as well, and he's probably one of the better options if you're looking for that bench "spark" IMO. he's a proven 6th man winner...and if that can be transitioned to the Heat, it's a definite upgrade even with his "dumber than a rock" play at times.

I get you on Dalembert...you have folks like Aron Baynes who's a true hustler, Chris Kaman. Do you try and reach for someone like Spencer Hawes or keep it mediocre to still obtain other descent role players. the Aron Baynes idea isn't too bad when you think about it too

Livingston/Blake...either will work

Steimsma...we just really need someone to hustle out and hit the boards. from the few times I've seen him play, he does that. getting him for cheap sure helps the notion too. tired of experimenting on the older/injured folks in Dampier, JHoward, Oden, etc

This is the absolute opposite of what LBJ wants. No more aged players and low IQ players.

Dalembert is the only noteworthy one there. Jamaal has no reason to come to us when he likes his gig in LA. Gooden is old and trash...and I thought the vet minimum was $1.4 mil. Beasley is not going to stay here for $1 mil.

I would love Jamal Crawford because he can create on his own, but his efficient isnt as great. At any point, we would need someone just to create as Wade can not do that anymore.

Exactly. A team operates under the salary cap, not the luxury tax, when signing free agents. So with so much committed to 3 players, plus all the salary cap holds, the only way to add a player will be via the mini-mid level (approximately 3M) or veteran minimum deals.

Also, what are you giving up to acquire Crawford? He's under contract and you have to send outgoing salary to make the deal work.

it is a hopeful case...but it's pretty realistic given their salaries over the years and really, most of them will be in tune with such figures as the only one to probably warrant more is Livingston due to some peak plays IMO

and the salary can work...if the Heat restructure as noted above and sign everyone on that list (outside of JCrawford as he's contracted but do replace him with another $5.5mil player) that totals $60mil, leaving about 5-6 mil to sign someone(s) before hitting the cap. the rest of salaries I have listed would use vet minimum, which fall at the 1.5-2mil mark and save case for MLE around $3mil for someone like Blake or Livingston.

who really on this list will be getting much higher contracts? 500k, maybe 1mil more a year...it's a flip at a chance of a ring if the player is desiring so

I believe that the Miami Heat is in the right path. Here is what Pat Riley said about LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade on the latest interview:

"Miami Heat president Pat Riley met the media on Thursday and said that he wants LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to return and bounce back from their NBA Finals defeat at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs, via ESPN.com's Michael Wallace:

"I don't think we've got to recruit Chris, Dwyane or LeBron," Riley said Thursday. "I'm not dropping rings on the table for those guys. They could drop their own."

Riley said he's met with all three players over a two-day span this week and relayed that he and team owner Micky Arison is willing to do "whatever it takes" to for them to move forward and contend for championships for several more seasons.

Riley addressed the rumors of the three of them opting out and taking pay cuts in order to facilitate the acquisition of Carmelo Anthony, who can also opt out and become a free agent. He didn't quite rule it out, but said that the plan is to stay the course, via ESPN:

"That's a pipe dream," Riley said, without mentioning the name of a potentially targeted player. "But everyone thought 2010 was a pipe dream. That's not where we're headed."

Riley added that the team ran out of steam, and that it needs to retool but not rebuild. He also defended Wade, who has taken ample criticism for his disappointing performance against the Spurs, via Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel:

"Dwyane is a champion, a Miami Heat for life," Riley said. "He is examined more than anyone else. . . . You can criticize him on his performance. But he isn't a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately guy or a Johnny-do-nothing. That's an insult for a guy since 2003 who has made magic for us.

"Since 2003 on, our world has changed. Does he have to reinvent himself? Absolutely. Does Erik have to reinvent a little bit? Yes he does. It's going to take execution and coming back with a great resolve."

Bosh has been clear that he wants to come back. As for James, who has said as little as possible about his future, Riley sounded optimistic but didn't reveal a whole lot, via the Sun Sentinel:

As for his exit meeting with James, Riley said, "He was restless. He wanted to get out of town with his family."

Of his relationship with James, Riley said, "It's a texting relationship. It's a short meeting in the hallway. He knows I love him. He knows I respect him."

Riley added that the Heat probably asked too much of the 38-year-old Ray Allen, who could retire, that Chris Andersen was slowed by an injury suffered against the Pacers and that the team needs to get younger, via Bleacher Report's Ethan Skolnick. He knows, though, that those things pale in importance compared to what happens with James, Wade and Bosh, and said that he's prepared for July 1. "

Instead of wasting cap space on bench players I'd rather just use Bird rights to resign Allen/Lewis/Beasley/etc after we use our cap space on new starters at the 1 and 5 positions.

Avery Bradley + Spencer Hawes
Isiah Thomas + Channing Frye (I know more of a stretch C but dat shooting tho)

Any one of these packages would be a monumental improvement to our starting lineup from Chalmers + Lewis/Haslem/Batter
