Okafor - how healthy is he?

Post#1 » by DBoys » Wed Jun 18, 2014 10:01 pm

Has there been any word in Phoenix about the health and rehab of Okafor? Since he missed the entire season, it's hard to get a read on whether he is a free agent this summer that other teams might pursue. Any Suns-based info or insight would be appreciated, thanks.

I read that he never even stepped foot in Phoenix and he would be continuing his rehab on the east coast somewhere. That was the last I heard and that was months ago, so I doubt news would come from the Suns...

I haven't heard a word, but since his contract is up, he should be able to be courted by any team.

Obviously he CAN be courted. I knew that.

What I'm trying to get a read on is how desirable he might be, and on how much money he might command. Since he was a Sun, any articles about his health are most likely to be published in Phoenix, I would think.

I have no doubt in my mind that Emeka Okafor will never play a game as a Phoenix Sun.

Sorry, I thought you asked if he was a free agent, and it thought I answered that for you.

We don't know anything about him, other than his past play. He never came to town. If he was healthy, he might peak some team's interest. But I don't think many know whether he is healthy enough to play.

Nope, I wasn't asking if he was going to be a free agent. I knew that. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

"I don't think many know whether he is healthy enough to play."....That's why I'm here, and asking. The last mention I can find of any rehab was all the way back when he was traded. He was mentioned again at the trade deadline, but only as a salary-absorbing contract and no discussion of whether he could play or not.

I was hoping that some media member covering the Suns had at some point asked the team, the team trainer or docs, or chased him down, to inquire about his health and potential to return. But maybe not.

The only news about him that was ever mentioned locally was shortly after the trade and that he would be staying in New York working out on his own. He never reported to the team or met with the training/medical staff so there is no inside information the team has other than whatever medical records they received.

The way I look at it is if he was healthy enough to play, his agent would be trying to market him. It's way too close to the start of FA period not to start pumping him up to get a small but decent contract.

Both guys suit the Heat perfectly...Can't see Frye leaving Phoenix unless he gets a huge offer/we low-ball him and he feels disrespected.

I don't see Frye leaving us to play in Miami. I think he's more of a low-key profile kind of guy, and with all the scrutiny he'd get with the Heat, I'm not sure if he could handle it. He plays a huge role for us, and I'm not sure if he'd get the same role in Miami.

He would dominate in SA next to Duncan...basically a more productive Bonner.

Or even for OKC if they used him off the bench

Yes to both. I even think he would be lethal in a pick and pop situation with Lebron/Wade. I would rather not have Frye leave though, lol.

It's odd that absolutely nothing has come out about Okafor. You would assume if he was healthy his agent would be getting the word out there as he gets ready to hit free agency in a couple weeks.

The silence might be an indicator that his back still isn't right and we may never see him play again.

He's definitely done. I don't even know if it's his health, or if his love of the game disappeared too.
