So he leaves. This team is built on Kemba long term and both Kemba + Al short term (moreso Al). I'm for upgrades across the roster and the weak links last year were Henderson, MKG and McRoberts.
Wrong. The weakest links were Zeller, Luke, and Neal. McRoberts was so far ahead of Zeller it was not even funny. Our weakness last season was we could not go to the bench without dropping off a cliff in some manner. Take out McRboerts and our offense stalls. Take out MKG and our defense suffered. Take out Kemba and there goes any penetration. Take out Al and all post scoring was gone.
Be honest about this stuff our biggest problem does not rest with the starters but with the bench. Now if you are moving a starter to the bench like a Henderson or McRoberts that is great meaning we have gotten better at two spots. IF all you do is replace McRoberts or Henderson then we still have a huge hole behind where they were.
I'm willing to move MKG to the bench. I believe Deng is an upgrade over MKG.
Afflalo or Stauskas or Lance is an upgrade over Henderson.
Zeller, by the end of the year, could be an upgrade over McRoberts. We'd have to sign someone to keep depth at the position or trade for someone like Taj Gibson to start.
I find you random hatred of MKG and love of the FAR FAR FAR inferior player in Zeller hilarious.
If Zeller can catch McRoberts next season as many miles behind him as he was this year there is no reason to doubt that MKG can be better than that mess we saw in Cleveland from Deng. MKG is closer to Deng than Zeller is to McRboerts right now and MKG is the younger player.
I am willing to move MKG to the bench just as I am willing to slide Zeller way further down the bench until he plays with some sort of NBA skill. Deng is not an upgrade when you factor in if he gets more than 7 million a year he is horrendously overpaid.
The easiest spots to upgrade are going to be SG, and backups at PG and PF. If we get guys who fit our system at those three spots we will be greatly improved. If we can get a good SF that isn't done like Deng and move MKG to the bench great another improvement but it will be harder to replace him than it is to replace Luke, Zeller and Hendo. I doubt we sign a guy over Zeller but he is a weakness right now. Hopefully he develops a shot and some balance over the summer.
