Joe Dumars was wowed by Darko in his workout. A 7' guy who was agile and could shoot a jumper. So they picked him instead of the safer picks Melo, Bosh, or Wade.

No, but Darko was really good. Larry Brown just killed his passion.

yeah. i still think Darko could have been saved if he'd been re-signed by us. SVG would've had him and Dwight playing all-time defense, and i'm sure we'd have seen some more use of his outside shooting.

but far out, imagine how much longer the Pistons could've kept their title hopes alive if they'd drafted Melo?

I think looking at Melo's game, maybe he would not have fit. That Pistons team relied on team oriented offense. I think Bosh would have been a better fit for them.

Darko was like 17 around draft day and was basically a physical specimen who had good hands and touch for a big man. I remember, in his first year here, he was actually impressive for us, too bad his lack of passion pretty much derailed his career track. He actually held his own against the likes of Duncan, which I think speaks volume for someone his age.

Darko definitely showed some stuff here in Orlando. Mainly his passing and shot blocking. He could hit the jumpshot, but I think he believed he was more advanced as a jump shooter than he actually was. I remember most of the board clamouring for him and Dwight to play together. And when they did (which was rarely) they actually worked pretty well together. I remember Darko always looking for Dwight down low when he caught the ball in the high post and he made several really good passes to him. It was something we didn't really see before he got here or after he left.

Without a doubt he had skills. I was a huge supporter of him when we got him. His shot blocking and passing were awesome. He wasn't a good rebounder though and his post game wasn't that great, except for a decent left handed hook. He could make the jumper but relied too much on it and tended to fade away on the jumpshot for some reason. Unfortunately he just didn't have the work ethic and passion to make himself into a really good player. He never really got himself into shape and would tire fast. He was part of the short lived Twin Towers experiment we all wanted to see. They seemed to play well together. Darko did have a good first round series against Detroit (we did get sweept).

Darko along with Arroyo played very well together here. Darko's best NBA years were with the Magic. He was the Serbian Swatter. If his shot was more consistent he may very well have stuck around, but we wanted to clear up cap space for Rashard.

I thought that was one of the biggest risks Otis made. I wish we could have kept Darko somehow, but that Rashard Lewis signing did pay off. But it was a fast forward process, which I think what Henny is trying not to commit now. Thus why I think we take Exum, the more I think of it. I think we are still 2-3 years away from competing which should give Exum, Ola, Vuc and Harris enough time to hone their skills.

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 2h

As Jeff Goodman reports, Joel Embiid suffered a foot injury. Cavs want to workout Dante Exum for No. 1 spot now too, sources tell Yahoo.
