Can Marquis Teague be developed?
With so much hype leading up to his drafting and falling so short in the NBA, do you guys feel he can be developed into a good player like his brother or is he just a complete bust.
The only reason I think he can is he has a lot of possible upsides (speed, vertical, athleticism) he just has 0 confidence and 0 execution. Could Kidd make him into a formidable PG in time?
I mean I can't help but hope that Teague becomes something worthwhile.
What do you guys think?

He's another worthless player that we have sucking up cap space.

i think his only niche in this league would be as a top notch defender off the bench. i dont see him ever adding enough offense for that to work for him.

Re: Can Marquis Teague be developed?
His jumper makes his ablity to be anything like his brother a pipe dream. He easily has the worst jumper in the league. It could be blocked by Earl Boykins or Spud Webb.
He will never be a good player. He has a 30% chance to improve and even then, his best case scenario is Smush Parker or Tyshawn Taylor.
Can't believe Billy traded away a better prospect and 1.2 million in cash for this guy.

tyshawn taylor is a better prospect then no one. he is not an NBA player with 0 potential to ever even be a decent 9th man. he will soon be out of the league
teagus is awful, but to say we gave up anything for him talent wise is flat out wrong. taylor is no better then teague. the 1.2M is the crime. that could have actually been useful

Taylor stepped up when Deron was out back in 2013 before all-star break. He was a major help to beating Indiana and Denver on a back to back and Teague is not capable of that.
The only thing Teague has got going for himself is the fact, he is only 21 years old and he's got quickness and athleticism. He looks alot more athletic in his workouts on the Nets Instagram account.
It would be great if we could turn him into a good player but I'm expecting any of that. Gutierrez ended up being exactly what we need.

really? we are using a good 2 game stretch to state taylors case? the guy has been garbage d-league fodder his entire career. if you want to go that route, teague was a key part of the bulls embarassing us in the first round a year ago... which id put more weight into then 2 random regular season games
either way, the point is, tyshawn taylor is in the lowest crap garbage tier of nba players and will soon be out of the league. teague is no worse then him
guitirez is a hard worker which i like. be he too is kinda of a trash player. he is like sundiatta gaines, guys like that are easy to find

He's far from trash. He isn't going to jump out the gym but he has excellent court vision and a very good defender. He is nothing like Gaines.
It's easy to find low cost guards but it is not easy to find keepers. It takes very good scouting.

Re: Can Marquis Teague be developed?
Teague would've been much better off staying in college and leaving as a senior. I'm sure he and his camp knew he would be exposed without a GOAT team surrounding him though.
The answer to this is - no. This guy has absolutely no NBA skills or talents and it's his 3rd year. He got beat out by Gutierrez in the rotation and looked extra terrible when he got minutes near the end of the year. I knew we were getting a bad player when the Bulls were facing dreadful injuries and the Bulls were starting recently signed Mike James over him but I didn't think he'd be much, much worse than Tyshawn Taylor.
Short answer - Teague is not an NBA player. He's an athlete but without ball handling or instincts or BBIQ, athleticism is useless - especially as a PG. No ability to run an offense either.

I'm not sure what kind of drugs Billy King does in his personal time but there's no reason why the Nets should have this bum on the roster.

I don't know, I thought Guiterrez in the minutes he played was pretty damn good for a 10-day contract who was picked up off the garbage heap.
He showed pretty solid BBIQ, good passing, ok shooting, and hard-nosed defense. Yes, mostly in blowouts, but he also played a lot of important minutes in close games for us as well.

exactly... just like sundiatta gaines. another 10 day contract who was scrappy, played solid during blowouts and wasnt terrible in real minutes.
guys like guitierez are a dime a dozen. below average reserve poing gaurds who dont do anything particularly well, but play hard. dont get me wrong, ill take him over taylor or teague in a second, but every year there are half a dozen guys like that laying around

Having good court vision and BBIQ is not a dime a dozen. It's very rare to find impact role players on the scrap heap. Example: Patrick Beverley, Ivan Johnson, Patty Mills, etc.

Guitierez isnt an impact role player though. i agree its tough to come by guys like mills or beverly. but guitierez isnt one of those guys.
its great having a bbiq and court vision... but you also need to be a legit NBA calibur player for that to really matter. i mean, i have a high bbiq, but it doesnt matter much since im in my 40's and cant move the day after i play ball these days.
guitirez i can see hanging on with minmum deals as a low level backup or 3rd string insurance type guy. but as mentioned, those guys arent tough to come by

Re: Can Marquis Teague be developed?
Sorry we picked up the option on his third year before trading him to you guys.
If he plays in your Summer League squad and looks a little better, don't put any faith into it. He actually looked somewhat competent for us last summer, and then he played a real NBA game and reverted to being Marquis Teague.

It took his brother 3 years before he become an elite PG. Jeff was riding the bench for 2 years. I wouldn't be surpised if Marquis is a late bloomer and developed in 4 to 5 years (because Marquis left after his freshman year and Jeff left after his sophomore year)

Teague is honestly one of the worst PGs I've ever seen.

I would be stunned. I haven't seen him do ANYTHING notable in any aspect of the game.

As a rookie Jeff averaged 10minutes, 3.2ppg, 1.7apg, with poor shooting
As a rookie Marquis averaged 8minutes, 2.1ppg, 1.3apg, with poor shooting
But Jeff has the luxury of staying with one team and developing properly for the last 5 years with Larry Drew and Nick Van Excel who are good PG coaches. I am worried about Marquis because he might bounce around from team to team and nobody will properly coach him.
