Webber: Melo Run from the Bulls

Post#1 » by BobsBurger » Thu Jun 19, 2014 7:56 pm

Webber "that's just not the place to go. When D-Rose was healthy, they had terrible offense. [Coach Tom] Thibodeau is a great, great coach, but offensively you have to have an offensive-minded coach as well, someone who can adapt like a [Spurs coach Gregg] Popovich".

I personally find it hard to argue that Thibs doesn't adapt or grow. I think he's the same coach we hired and he's less human and more machine. The great coaches appreciated the human aspect as much as the basketball side.

The Bulls had a terrible offense with a healthy Rose, eh?

In Roses last two healthy seasons the Bulls had the 11th and 5th rated offenses in the NBA.

Thibs would probably adapt if he had 30 3 point shooters on his bench and talented facilitators at several positions.

Hey, I had my problems with Thibs as well but "terrible offense" is not fair. Given the pieces he had he probably came as close to maxing out what they could do as possible. I would defy any coach to take a squad with 1 shot creator, very limiting floor spacers, and lack of transition players (outside of Rose) and get higher offensive ratings.

Jesus, I just read the article. He criticizes THibs then tells Melo to go to HOU and be coached by McHale. GTFO Webber.

P.S.

What a tool. As Magilla said, the Bulls offense with a healthy Rose was above average. I think a healthy Rose (fingers crossed) and maybe the best pure scorer in the game right now after Durant can be the focal points of a good offense even if Thibs spends every moment of practice harping on defense.

Webber is basically telling Melo to go where he can "chill," as Bosh might put it - ie the Rockets, where it's all offense all the time. Sure, go to Houston where you'll be coming to blows with Harden and Dwight over who gets to take the next shot, and Dwight might end up wanting to murder you and/or Harden for playing bad defense. Yeah, that's the ticket.
Can I borrow a feeling?

And a top 5 one when Noah was in the lineup in 10-11 as well.

Melo + Derrick would make it a great offense. All these two guys would need is a defensive cast+coach to complete the elite puzzle. hmmm

How many championships did he win with that free wheeling offense in Sacramento.

In fairness, he was probably robbed of a championship by a dirty ref. You can know plenty about winning even if you've never won a ring.
