He's probably not even #1 on their draft board right now. I bet it's Parker anyway. If he is, it's most likely only a smidgen ahead.
Trading down yesterday, the Cavs would've had to pass up the guy they fell in love with in Embiid.
That is why when everyone says the price got higher, I don't agree. I think the price was higher yesterday, because the Cavs fell in love with Embiid, and if they dropped down to 3, they would lose out on Wiggins. It doesn't seem like they like any other player nearly as much.
The higher the demand, the higher the price.
I think that the demand for the no.1 pick did increase after losing one possible option for the no.1 pick. Looking at tiers, suddenly there's a gap between the top 2 and 3 pick.
But then, I also think they'd go with Parker. Exum lands with Bucks and Wiggins to us. Wiggins is just too raw for them and I really don't see how Wiggins would be a good fit being a 3 and D guy and transition player on offense with the no.1 pick.
Well, demand is just one side of the coin. There's also the "willingness to move down" factor. While the Sixers have lost leverage, yesterday the Cavs were probably less willing to move down, because they could potential miss the player they fell in love with.
Look at it this way:
Pretend the Sixers had the #1 overall pick and this stress fracture thing happened to Wiggins, and Wiggins was their guy all along like Embiid was for the Cavs. Before the injury? Do you think there is any way Hinkie would have traded down? I don't think so. He loves Wiggins, so why move down and lose the guy you love? But now that the guy he love is gone, maybe he wants to move down and pick up an extra pick or player and still get another guy he likes on the board.
We don't know the Cavs draft board, though. There might not be a major gap, if any, between Wiggins and Exum. There are a lot of question marks.
