Especially when the AA outfield boasts just one OF that could really be considered a prospect (Crouse).

If they are at least listening to trade proposals that include Pompey, might not they be keeping him in DUN to avoid the possibility a promotion showcases him poorly, at least during the adjustment period?

I really hope they don't deal Pompey. His upside is huge.

True, but you could make the argument the other way and say he gets off to a hot start, a team might value him more highly because they figure his ETA is closer?

I'd be willing to take the chance because his glove and speed are major league caliber. The only worry would be that he wouldn't hit, but his plate discipline is generally pretty good. He shouldn't struggle that badly unless he has some bad luck off the bat.

GCL Opener Lineups!

Jake Brentz gets the start. Recently drafted top picks Lane Thomas and Matt Morgan in the lineup. Top IFA signees Yeltsin Gudino and Freddy Rodriguez as well.

Agreed. He's one of the very few legitimate positional prospects we have; if we're going to make a deal, it should be from our ample pitching depth.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

It's exciting for SS and Rookie to get going because it seems like so much depth and high-ceiling guys are down on those teams. Fun to watch. Hopefully Brentz can show some command.

Good day to follow the clubs as Sanchez gets his 2nd AAA start and Miguel Castro starts his second for Vancouver.

Nice first AB for Jose Pujols. Worked the count. Fought some pitches before ripping a 2 run double to RC #Phillies

I think I'd rather see Brentz get shelled with hit after hit than to give up a bunch of walks.

LOL...but how many walks!

On the bright side (i think) if they're making such great contact he must be finding the middle of the plate without difficulty.

2 so far...including walking a guy in with the bases loaded. MiLB.com's boxscore is way behind though.

Brentz still sucks.

Yeah, I just noticed the boxscore finally showed some data. Hasn't displayed the Tomscha bomb and Pujols double yet! Uh oh

What are your thoughts on Borucki? He's starting for Bluefield tonight. Had a real nice debut before undergoing TJ.

Some big boys on that GCL roster, lots of time to add 10-15 pounds too.

yeah, I'm not entirely sure either of those tweets were with Brentz on the mound.

Five batters in, he had walked two and only recorded one out. Got to be close to the 30 pitch/inning limit before facing either of those guys.

And the homer was likely in the guy's second at bat, since he was hitting one spot ahead of the guy who had the double in the earlier tweet.

One of my favourite sleepers before he had surgery. His extended spring training stats were very very strong, of course those aren't always an accurate portrayal of player performance:

27 IP, 0.67 ERA, 0.93 WHIP
30.2% K rate, 5.7% BB rate

Borucki and Castro were our strongest performers in extended (statistically).

Looks like Brentz is done after 2/3 IP gave up 3 hits and 4 runs to go along with 2 walks. Jays responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the first.
