Exum or Vonleh or Smart or ? (If Parker & Wiggins gone)

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Fri Jun 20, 2014 5:52 pm

Figured we were due for a post Embiid injury poll.

If it goes Wiggins/Parker 1/2, who do you want?

If we stand pat I would go with Exum for sure. I only want Embiid if he falls but I could easily see Boston/LA drafting him. Otherwise a trade down option to obtain a guy like Vonleh or Smart would be okay if we can get some decent assets along with it.

I actually like Smart next to MCW. He's just as much of a SG as a PG and he is a bull. Sort of reminds me of D Wade and Lance Stephenson with his size and skill set.

Everything you said is spot-on.

I'm really torn on Vonleh.

Need to do more research on Exum I suppose.

Low key my dream would be to come out of this draft with Exum and Embiid somehow. We would likely have to trade up for Embiid if he fallls to the 6, 7 or 8 range with our Pel's pick and Thad. Jeff Goodman of ESPN actually has Embiid falling to 10 in his new mock :D

PG: MCW
SG: Exum
SF: ?
PF: Noel
C: Embiid

Embiid. Dare to be great. I think he's the best talent in the draft. Wouldn't have a shot at him otherwise.

Either take Embiid or trade down with someone who wants Exum badly (and then hope that Embiid falls.) Dovie'andi se tovya sagain.

The Embiid gamble is ok if you're at 10, or even trade back to 7, but you still have high quality/healthy options at 3 you can't pass up.

Roll the dice on Embiid for sure. The draft isn't the time to be risk-averse. "Scared money don't make none".
"Bob Cooney was on Fox Philly news last night with Howard Eskin and he said some GMs don't like Hinkie because he doesn't follow the "old boys club rules". He mentioned Hinkie doesn't return some of the other GM's phone calls."

I would not draft Embiid at 3, way too much risk.

I would pick Exum and then you have the option of keeping him or trading him to a Milwaukee or Orlando, who also seem high on him.

I think that it was always in the back of my mind that the sixers could very well have picked Exum anyway if Wiggins were off the board, with our emphasis on paint and pace. He is perfect for that game style.

Exum then trade MCW and the 10th for Embiid or Vonleh.

I love the people saying that we should take a chance on Embiid. It's so nice to make the bold prediction when the repercussions are zero. If we do take Embiid at 3 and he never plays a full season, will these same people be calling for his (Hinkie's) head for making that pick?

I want to say I wouldn't but I cannot promise that.

Taking Embiid at 3 takes the biggest of balls as of right now..and I could understand why one would take that risk. I actually don't hate Doug/Thorn for trading for Bynum despite how it ended up...it was a chance you have to take (also helps that it ended that era and we finally got a chance to tank).

But as much as I'd like to think I would be fine...if lets say Exum blows up into a star...then we look really really dumb and I might not be as nice. But only Exum. If Randle pans out, I can always point to tweener history being against him, If Smart pans out I can always say that I didn't think he fit or that he wasn't in contention. It's how I deal with the Turner pick. Cousins would have murdered Doug and be in jail right now and Favors really hasn't done much yet and no one knew about Paul George like that anyway. Same goes for passing on Embiid and having him pan out.

But in general? Hinkie would be considered the worst GM EVAR by most fans if he bungles this pick.

You damn right they will, you can't take him at 3 its to much of a risk. Of course he'll probably be a great player and we'll end up with Roy Hinson 2.0.

I hope Manziel goes on a bender and drops a steamer on Dan Giberts neck.
