I'm excited as well. If for no other reason, it shows the Cavs are no longer building around a player who is wearing a Heat jersey. My first choice was Hollins, but Blatt strikes me as a no-nonsense coach which is exactly what the team needs.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

I know very little about him so does anyone care to share some info on this guy? Is he more of an offensive or defensive minded coach? How are his rotations and in game adjustments? Is he a good teacher and motivator?

Great hire. So glad we didn't go with a recycled coach.

Honestly don't know much about style of coaching but has a lot of success and has a ton of experience. Coached Russia last Olympics and they won bronze and played some amazing basketball. Beyond that I haven't watched his teams personally but results speak for themselves.

I hate recycled coaches, it's always off "hope" they'd be better this time, this team, etc, but they always end up being the same coach.

I don't know if any coach turned things around after being a failure.

Even the lifetime coaches you can tell how good they are within just a year or 2.

Best coach available this off season and an offensive focused guy.

He has won as much internationally as was really possible.

This move is loved by pretty much every person with basketball knowledge and no agenda. (which explains why ESPN is hating it)

Just know what I have heard and a little bit I have read the last few days. He is an offensive minded, no nonsense coach, played for Pete Carrill at Princeton. Is supposedly well versed in the Princeton offense that stresses player movement, ball movement, a lot of back door cuts, and unselfish play.
Not sure how that last part will go over with The Brand, but its safe to say we will see a more up tempo style of play this year. His stats from playing were pretty bad, but he has won everything there is to win where he has coached, so that is a good sign, and it sounds like his teams weren't always the favorites when they did win.

Great hire.

Blatt is one of the best coaches in the world.

This is a positive sign that the franchise is moving forward.

Always heard this guy was one of the top coaches outside of the NBA. Nice move.

Btw Blatt have always had success with his guards.. especially combo guards - Look for Dion Waiters to have a great year under Blatt unless his defense earns him benchtime.

His teams to me always were first and foremost solid defensively. He's also a great adapter on offense to what type of talent he has exactly and how to maximize it - but to me contrary to reports in the US the defense with his teams has always been the base and foundation as the common theme.

He might be hardass at times, but over here and if you go around and ask all his players - the terms "players coach" would more likely then not pop up (Opposed to a guy like Messina for example who fits the former to the inch)

Early in the coaching search, I was lukewarm on him, but the increased attention he's gotten since then has been overwhelmingly positive and encouraging. I also hate hiring retreads because they basically always turn out either OK to bad. There's not much upside with them.

I'm also glad to see him check his ego and hire an assistant who wanted his job.

Congrats! I do believe that Blatt is best option for your team. He knows how develop young players, how to use role players, he is proven winner and motivator.

I haven't the slightest idea what the Cavs were trying to accomplish in terms of coaching over the last four years, but I really like this hire for you guys. Congrats.
