Myers: Warriors Making Major Trade 'Unlikely Right Now'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jun 20, 2014 9:50 pm

Bob Myers declined to comment on Kevin Love trade rumors involving the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"I think probably right now unlikely. It's the best I can do for you. But I will say this: If you asked me last year at this time would we be in a situation to grab an (Andre) Iguodala, I would have said the same thing.

"Right now, I think it's unlikely. Right now, today."

Conflicting reports have surfaced in recent days on whether the Warriors have included Klay Thompson in discussions.

"The nice thing about him that I think is he hasn't reached his ceiling," Myers said. "I think he's got a high ceiling and that he can only get better, so that's the type of player anybody wants on their team."

Great. For the price the Wolves are asking, we are better off not trading for Love. Let's move on.

EXACTLY! No need to gut the team by trading three core players in SG-Klay Thompson, PF-David Lee, and SF-Harrison Barnes for only a one year rental in PF-Kevin Love. Then the Warriors would have a huge hole to fill at SG because people don't realized how valuable Klay Thompson is. Klay Thompson played good defense for the last two seasons now on defending the other team PG to ease the load on Stephen Curry. If Stephen Curry have to carry the team on offense and then having to defend the other team PG, he would be worn out.

Lakers have nothing to trade for Love except for their first rounder which is nearly not enough. Looks like rough days for Kobe and co.

C Bougut
PF Lee
SF Igodala
SG Thompson
PG Curry

That was the best lineup in the NBA last year. Why destroy your depth to upgrade it?

If things go as planned there will be no need for Love. If things aren't looking great for the Warriors by the trade deadline they can just trade Lee and a few other players (Barnes and Speights?) for an expiring contract (Chandler?). BAM, they have the cap space to sign Love. The Wolves or whoever trades for him will be left with nothing.

What makes him think Klay hasn't reached his ceiling?

Was it the three years of basically identical stats?

Also, Kevin Love is a top 10 player in the league.

Stop acting like anyone other than Curry on your team is in the same discussion as him.

I agree but to quote Tyson Chandler "He can't play D."

You don't watch many Warriors games do you? His defense has increased tremendously and he's starting to find many ways to get the rim rather than just taking jumpers.
