Healing Henry hungry to play. But where?

Post#1 » by leeprettyp » Sat Jun 21, 2014 4:01 pm

http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/lakers/post/_/id/39960/healing-henry-hungry-to-play-but-where?ex_cid=espnapi_public

He’s still far from being back 100 percent after physicians corrected a torn ligament in his left wrist and a bone bruise and abnormality of the meniscus in his right knee.

Henry said team doctors estimate it will take another five to six weeks of rehabilitation to get to that point, but he feels good about his progress nonetheless.

“I’m happy with that,” Henry said. “I’ve gone through this since April. I had my surgeries in April, so it’s been a long time. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I feel good.

“So I feel like I’m heading in the right direction. I’m all right.”

Henry is set to become a free agent come July 1. Even though he’ll technically be under contract with the Lakers for less than two more weeks -- unless they re-sign him right when the free agency begins -- Henry believes the team will continue to guide him in his rehab.

“I think as long as I don’t sign with someone else, I think they’ll help me,” Henry said. “Because I’m a decent guy and I don’t treat anybody too bad, where they’re like, ‘Ah, you’re not under contract; we’re not going to help you anymore. Have fun with a gimp leg and a messed up wrist.’

“I think they’ll help me through it, and they’ll see me to 100 percent.”

“Last year it was kind of just like a, ‘Hey, we got to find a great place to go and then get there on a nonguaranteed [deal] and just show them what you can do’ type of thing. I’m optimistic that I’ll have a little better deal [this summer], hopefully.”

These injuries may keep his value around the vet minimum to 3mill range IMO. I wouldnt mind Xavier coming back next season. He's definitely a good rotational player in the league. But seems to be very injury prone. We're gonna have to choose 2 of the 3 from the Young, Xavier and Meeks group. Should Henry be one of them?

If Mitch is convinced by what our doctors tell him, then yeah I'd love X back for a cheap 2 year deal or so. Seems like he'd be most interested in length of contract as much as anything. He's a confident player and a nice guy off the bench.

I like Henry but he just can't stay healthy. I would let him walk. Not trying to tank again just to get a top 5 pick. Lakers tradition is to reload not rebuild.

I like X, he showed far more improvement here than any other place he's been. For us to get back to being good we have to get young guns like X on board. Depth is key and this last playoffs should've shown everybody that.

That's why for me we need to some how keep X, Hill, Jordan and Nick. Meeks is a wild card but if we can crunch the numbers right this is better than quality depth. All these guys can score and defense is just about wanting to play it.

You actually want a veteran who is legitimately trying to win a ring to sign with us? I don't. That means they'd be a stupid person. We don't need stupid vets. We need quality, smart players at any age.

A vet would have to be delusional to believe we're winning any time soon.

I'd keep X for sure for the right price.
I love his attitude, and love how he takes the ball to the basket rather that settle for outside shots all the time.
And when the defense gives him a little space, he's pretty good with his outside shot.
He hustles and plays D.
He would be a great bench player.

And as far as winning something anytime soon, the only real season that can even be a threat is season after next. In other words Kobe's last year....that's when the swan song will begin. And if we don't come close then it's up to Kobe on weather he wants to hang on because our position will improve money wise going forward.

I keep saying it, but 2016 is when we'll be a real threat to do damage if we manage this stuff the right way.

Not a Henry fan at all. No this has nothing to do with his girlfriend. Maybe.

I really would love to have X, Young, Meeks, Hill, and Farmar back. How realistic is that? Don't know. Deal with it Mitch.

Ty that's a misconceived perception this board developed about me. Yeah I like a curvy chic, I like all sizes except alien like bodies and those that resemble 12 year old's. But she's pretty.

Sign him to a vet minimum contract and make him prove he can stay healthy for a full season. It is not a guarantee considering the fact he has had durability problems throughout his career so far, but it is a low risk-high reward type of deal. We all know what X can bring to the table.

You gota start somewhere to buid a team. Xavier wont do it. they need to bring in quality vets. I'll throw some free agent names out there THAT CAN ACTUALLY HELP LA and can be had for relatively cheap.

marcin gortat
luol deng
trevor ariza
channing frye
spencer hawes
vince carter
darren collison
kris humphries
andre blatche
boris diaw
chris kaman
andrei kirilenko
birdman
josh mcroberts
steve blake
mike miller
thabo sefolosha
shawn marion
danny granger
kenyon martin
kirk hinrich
ray allen
udonis haslem

these are all veterans who can tremendously help a team and play alongside kobe, and had for relatively cheap as compared to these scrubs like X, Wes, Bazemore and the likes. Better yet, all of them are playoff tested.

there are so many quality free agents out there that can be built around kobe and gasol for another title run. players like diaw, ariza, hawes, birdman, marion, hinrich especially.

i dont think the lakers have or want the time for him to prove he can stay healthy. they need to start rebuilding asap. if the dude cant play, let him walk

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
