Monre taking the QO would be the best thing for the Pistons who would then free up 5 mil in cap space and we could sign a max player like Melo.

Melo isn't coming (and we wouldnt win anyway)

lebron isn't coming

Klay Thompson isn't coming

Love for damn sure isn't coming

Can we just focus on realistic acquisitions?

Embiid's going to drop to us. I can feel it...

Unfortunately the Morrows, Arizas, Vazquez's, and others along those lines just aren't as fun to talk about.

From Langlois today:

Maybe adding another center or power forward with the only pick the Pistons hold going into Thursday’s draft at No. 38 isn’t high on their priority list.

But the draft comes five days before free agency opens and the Pistons can’t be sure whether they’ll still have Monroe when the team gathers back in Auburn Hills for training camp in October. Even given the history of restricted free agency and the inherent advantage the home team holds, the Pistons have to at least weigh their options if Monroe fetches an offer sheet from another NBA suitor for the maximum allowed.

No doubt, they’ve already had those discussions internally. And maybe they’ve decided that their response will be swift and absolute: to match any offer sheet, even the maximum, and keep Monroe.

But maybe they’ve decided there are only so many resources – only so many of the projected $63.2 million salary cap dollars – they can afford to expend at two positions when their perimeter needs a boost. And maybe there’s a tipping point where they decide their most prudent course is to negotiate a sign-and-trade deal with a team of Monroe’s choosing.

If we could move Moose for a 1st round pick and were guaranteed to add two of Parsons / Hayward / Stephenson then I'd drive him to the airport. Absent that and absent a S&T where we land a no doubt starting 2/3 then all the Meeks & Morrows of the world aren't worth letting Moose leave.

What Langlois is saying is what many here have been saying all year. With such a dire need on the perimeter, it just makes no sense to invest another 15 mil/yr back into the frontcourt.

When you consider that we could trade Monroe for Anderson (7 mil) and possibly get Stephenson for 8-9 mil/yr for that same 15 mil, and have significantly upgraded our two biggest weakness (shooting and perimeter defense)...opting to spend it all on Monroe (who helps neither area) just seems like a big waste of money from a team standpoint. The Pistons need to do what's best for the team and allocate resources based on what the team needs, not just looking at it as paying whatever it costs to keep your most talented young players together, regardless of team needs.

Good PR people are hired to do just that, write/say a lot of words without actually saying nothing important at all.

If they move Monroe i (and Stan ;) ) want real value back. Holiday, Hayward, Parsons - something of that caliber. And if thats not available in a sign and trade for Monroe, just match any offer try to deal him later.

A Monroe S&T isn't the only way to upgrade the perimeter. They could let him walk for nothing and it would still be more advantageous than resiging him to a max deal, because they could just take that money and spend it in FA and upgrade the perimeter that way instead.

The point is they don't need to be spending that much on a frontcourt player when they have such huge needs on the perimeter. And there's no guarantee that if you resign him you'll be able to trade him later.

Langlois is already on damage control for if Monroe gets dealt out of Detroit.

lol that's the way it came across to me too.

Langlois usually says nothing of worth, except when it comes to damage control situations.

Give Monroe and Drummond 3 years and theyll be the best frontcourt in the east

KL testing the waters for SVG.

Float the idea of Monroe being moved and see what comes back...

I would be so happy if we were able to get Ariza. He's a realistic possibility and he really would be a great fit for our ball club.
