D. Wade as the starting PG
Given Wade's age and knees does anyone think it is feasible for him to move to PG. Of course he would have to improve his three point shooting but he would have to do that regardless of which position he plays next year. I think moving him to point would:
1. Allow Bosh to step in as the 2nd offensive option behind Lebron
2. Allow the heat to go get a young SG which are easier to find than a good PG.
3. Take pressure off Lebron
4. Extend his career because playing PG would be easier on his body and would take advantage of his high basketball IQ.
5. Give the heat a size advantage against most teams. A line up of PG Wade, SG ( draft pick or FA) PJ Harrison or Jordan Adams or Stuckey or Deng SF. LBJ PF. Beasley C Bosh would be bigger than most teams.
I know he would have trouble guarding some of the top PG but who doesn't. They would have to also have to guard him in the post. He was a good PG in college and i think he can be good one again.

ah .. Ladies & Gentlemen, smartcane's 2014 post
Seriously though, this has been discussed on these boards in the past. Offensively there will be no problem with Wade running the point .. but defensively is where it will get ugly real fast. At this stage of his career, Wade will have a very tough time keeping up with the much quicker PGs.

Re: D. Wade as the starting PG
I would thoroughly enjoy watching Wade attempt to defend these quick PGs with his knees in the condition that they are in.

Nah he wouldn't be able to keep up with those quick guards for that amount of time.

1. Yes this is my 2014 post and while this may have been discussed in the past. This is a completely different situation.
2. If he can't guard opposing PG, how can he guard opposing SG. I think he he would be able to play off and use his size advantage to recover. He will not have the same size advantage with SG.
3. If a PG option better that we can afford than Wade as the PG we should sign but i don't think we have that option. Wade as a PG would be better than most of PG FA.
4. Also Miami used this formula to win our first championship. A older GP who didn't have the foot speed but used his height to over come those deficiencies. We then used a young attacking SG to carry the scoring load. We don't don't need one to carry the scoring load this time but we need their energy on offense and defense.
5. Once again it is easier to find a decent scoring and defending SG than a decent PG.

Because the SG position is absolutely horrible right now and there's aren't that many freak athletes at SG while the PG is loaded with freak athletes all over the NBA.

Re: D. Wade as the starting PG
I mean all things considered why can't we just ask wade to be more of a distributor as playing him at the one with a small sg that can cover ones is basically the same as just telling wade to initiate more sets

Wade couldn't stay in front of Boris Diaw. He'd look like a cardboard cut-out against NBA PGs.

We can pair him with Haslem at the 2.

NBA SG typically aren't as quick as NBA PGs. This isn't 2006, Wade's health limits him from being able to do what he once was capable of. It makes me really sad thinking about it but it is what it is. Who do you have us signing to play SG then? Give us your ideal lineup.

Re: D. Wade as the starting PG
I used to think this was a possibility, but Wade just can't do it defensively unless we have a big rim protector behind him and we could let him use length & positioning to funnel his man. Without that his quickness would get exposed every night.
Plus, he'd need to lose weight. Like 20 lbs easy. Spacing would be better with him on the ball more though.

Not a chance, a sign of whether Wade is healthy is if he can come off his patented PnR's at the top of the key and we saw little of that in the playoffs. No way would he be able to handle the ball that much and you need consistency at the 1.

Absolutely.
Old players with bad knees are the best choice to defend the fastest players in the league.
OP, the tortoise and the hare is a fable.
Here's a visual approximation of Wade defending PG's:

Just imagine Ty Lawson is the yellow car, and Wade is the truck at the end, and you might get the picture.

Re: D. Wade as the starting PG
MY ideal line up would be PG wade, SG PJ Harrison, SF LBJ, PF Bosh C Gortat ( best center out there that i think the heat can land). Harriosn because while he would be rookie, he played last year in the D-league and showed he is NBA ready. Moving Bosh back to PF would allow him to be more of a scorer at his natural position. Gortat can protect the rim and knock down mid range shots.

Wade cannot play starter minutes anymore. He needs to play off the bench.

Re: D. Wade as the starting PG
Wade needs to move into the Manu GinĂ³bili role, not the PG role.
Less minutes, more time with the second unit without Lebron.
Work on outside shot, 3 point shot, become Ultimate X factor and prolong career.

Re: D. Wade as the starting PG
Not at all. No chance. I'm not going to ridicule you for bringing it up (I always try to keep it positive), but besides Wade not being able to keep up with PG's, he likes to play 'safety' & help defense. He can't play off of PG's. Additionally, his half court playmaking has taken a dip, with his turnovers increasing more and more.
