Clippers Would Consider Moving Blake In Deal For LeBron

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jun 24, 2014 10:00 pm

The Los Angeles Clippers have had discussions about the possibility of acquiring LeBron James, though they expect him to eventually re-sign with the Miami Heat.

Doc Rivers, the Clippers’ president of basketball operations and coach, and his staff are doing their due diligence to make the team better and would consider moving All-Star power forward Blake Griffin along with others in a sign-and-trade deal to get James, according to the officials.

The Clippers could consider sending Griffin and Jared Dudley or Matt Barnes to Miami to get James.

The Clippers wouldn’t mind trading DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford and either Barnes or Dudley to the Heat for James, but the team knows that would most likely be hard to do.

“The Miami Heat does not think he’s leaving,” one official said. “Miami thinks it’s a ploy by James to make the team better.”

blake griffin is the reason the franchise has gotten where it is. i dont see that happening, but if it does, it shouldnt be any more than blake straight up for lebron.

the DJ deal seems more logical.

Yeah, That sounds like a bunch of crap. Blake Griffin is not The only reason the Clips are where they are. Also, I think LeBron will obviously end up in 1 or 2 places: Cleveland or Miami. I think Cleveland is the most likely and I am sure the NBA, Cleveland Cavaliers, and him LBJ himself will all profit the most off of this move.

Bull ****. The Clippers' intention would be to bring in Lebron to play with Paul and Griffin.

Why would Lebron play for that loser franchise? People are delusional with this Cleveland nonsense.

lebron james is the best player in the world and people are afraid to part with blake. goes to show it isn't just symptomatic of a couple of fan bases. most of ya'll are too delusional and greedy to see the forest form the trees... you'd have to be out of your mind to think that the clippers would pass on bron for blake.

I don't see a LeBron + CP3 combo winning a bunch of rings. CP3's game is already aging. It would be another LeBron/Wade situation in a few years.

i would think they would have to in order to make the deal make sense for both teams. Clips need to keep DeAndre Jordan for that rim protection.

LeBron is 29 and has a TON of mileage on his body. Blake is 25 and still improving. It's not as cut-and-dry as you make it seem. I am absolutely not saying that Griffin is better than James, but if you're the Clippers, you also have to think about the future and the possibility that LeBron could very well start declining within the next three years.

The clippers would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn't look into acquiring James. However I personally would like to see if the combination of Blake and CP3 can continue to build toward a title. They have gained momentum every year and are possibly within striking distance with better execution in crunch time or adding one or two key role players. By the same token I would like to see if Lebron and co. can retool and continue to have the same level of success. Perseverance is an important and impressive aspect of winning. To reach the top after being forced to address your weaknesses and improve from within, that's what I would most like to see. If he continues to simply change teams like the stock market sure he'll always be in contention but that will definitely take the luster off of any future accomplishments in my opinion.

Yeah, if LBJ tells the clippers he is interested in playing for them, now that he is a free agent, the clippers would have a couple options. Move the necessary players to create enough cap space to the Heat or to the other 28 teams in the league.

If you are Pat Riley, are you going to tell the Clippers to go F themselves and get nothing for LeBron, or are you going to say, Hell Yeah! I'll take Blake and some filler!

From the Clippers perspective, if LBJ wants to play for them, it would be easier to trade with Miami to clear the cap space than it would to trade with the other teams in the league. The other teams don't want another super team created, so they'd all be insisting on first round picks being bundles with the Clipper dregs. Miami would need to show it's fans they got something of value for LBJ. Unless they can sign Melo as his replacement, Blake might be the next best thing.

If you are the clippers, why are you giving up Blake? Mostly because he is essentially LBJ lite. Who are we kidding here. LBJ is more power forward than small forward. He is like a point power forward on the Heat.

As long as LBJ goes to the West, I don't care where. Just not the Spurs. They repeat.

It would be much smarter for the Clippers to trade their assets for future picks to clear cap space, then just sign LeBron outright.

If you trade Blake for LeBron, all you get is LeBron.

If you trade Blake to some other team for future picks, then you get LeBron AND those future picks.

This is a game of asset management, and LA would be severely underplaying their hand if they were to go the dim bulb route and needlessly waste those assets in a sign-and-trade.
