Re: 2013/14 Random Trade Ideas
I'd hate that trade. Trading Roy for the inferior Robin Lopez, the sophomore who hasn't shown anything in McCollum, and Thomas Robinson who may never have a contract in the NBA again after his rookie deal is up, he's already become a journeyman. All in the name of what? Saving 2.5 million?

I'd be pretty happy with that deal, let Lopez and Ian split the minutes and then find a 3rd center who can be a decent back up to either. That deal saves the Pacers $2.5 million or there about.
As Roy Hibbert trades go this is one of the better ones I've seen. Not saying I'd do it.
Glass half full, Lopez replaces much of the defense Roy brings at far less cost. McCallum could be huge if Lance isn't resigned and Robinson could make the front court more athletic. Three useful pieces is probably the best you could hope for in return for Roy right now.
Glass half empty, Robinson is a bust, McCallum is an unproven undersized 2 and Lopez is an inferior player to Hibbert. This could be epic sell low trade.

Re: 2013/14 Random Trade Ideas
Robinson is one of those guys who should have stayed in school at least 1 more year. So he looks like a flop right now but given a good Mentor (David West) and the right amount of playing time we could see him become the PF of the future and McCallum is a good prospect as well. Making that deal would allow the Pacers to sign Lance without getting into the Luxury Tax. Lopez is not the defender that Roy has been but he's not bad either, Lopez could be resigned after next season and shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

Re: 2013/14 Random Trade Ideas
I like the idea of trying to acquire Tony Allen. Although he is 32 and coming off a down year (injury/demotion) I could see him playing alongside either Paul or Lance while offering hella relief on the defensive end. His task would be simple, guard the best perimeter player. The difference in offensive production from PG and Lance when guarding LeBron versus not guarding him was huge. This would make our elite defense even more superior.
3-man wing rotation by half:
[SG] 1st qtr.: Lance 6 min --- Tony 6 min *** 2nd qtr.: Lance 12 min
[SF] 1st qtr.: Paul 12 min *** 2nd qtr.: Tony 6 min --- Paul 6 min
MPG- PG 36, Lance 36, Tony 24
I'd offer Mahimi and Sloan.
Followed by a call to the Lakers in regards to Kaman (s&t) for one of our trade exceptions, preferably the small one.

Re: 2013/14 Random Trade Ideas
For now I'd be willing to trust that Solomon Hill could make the same contribution that would be provided by Allen. If there is any money after signing Lance or if Lance isn't resigned my top priority in either case would be a point guard. The names I'd consider:
Shawn Livingston
DJ Augustine
Luke Ridenour
Steve Blake
If Lance is back I'd move George Hill to the bench in favor of one of the guys above. If not, I'm fine with starting him (Goerge Hill) at sg.

Boy, I love me some Shaun Livingston. Though, he'd almost make more sense if Lance left, as his size would allow him to play PG next to Hill at SG, and make up for Hill's lack of size, but allow Hill to revert to his natural, off the ball scorer, mentality.

Given all the issues with Lance. Not the least of which being his relationship with the rest of the Pacer team. I like idea of signing Livingston over bringing Lance back too. I can't imagine he'd be as expensive as Lance. Is 4-6 mil per year reasonable and how many years?
In a far less spectacular way he seems to me to provide an awful lot of what we get from Lance without all the drama.

Re: 2013/14 Random Trade Ideas
OK I know this may come as a shock but I'm having a complicated idea. Bare with me.
The Clips are reportedly wanting to sign LBJ (who I hate) ok, but they need to cut salary to do it. I hear the Cavs are looking at trades for their #1. Whether they do or don't they have Anderson Verajoa and Alonzo Gee who are both on Team Options. The Clips have expressed an interest in dumping or nearly dumping guys to be able to sign LBJ out right. Rather than having they trade a package deal including DeAdre Jordan or Blake Griffin to the Heat I propose this. Pacers trade George Hill and Copeland to the Cavs ($11.1 million) for Verajoa and Gee ($12.3 million not guaranteed) to Clips. Clips send DeAndre Jordan ($11 million) to the Pacers and the #28 pick to the Cavs. Clips decline the team option on AV and AG.
The Pacers then Trade Hibbert to the Celtics for Kelly Olynyk, Gerald Wallace (PUKE) and Keith Bogans (Who is guaranteed) the #6 and #17.
The only way I'm taking Wallace is if I get paid, that is the #2 picks at the very least the #6 pick Bogans is declined, Instant Savings. Olynyk backs up Jordan and we can look to trade Ian Mahimni to Philly for 1 or 2 of their 4 2nd round picks.
I really hate taking Wallace.
We cut about $4 million in salary assuming we don't move Ian.

Varejao has something like $4m guaranteed on his deal.
But if we could somehow move Hibbert and Hill, and end up with Deandre Jordan, Kelly Olynyk, the #6 and #17, and only stuck with Gerald Wallace out of the whole thing? I'd do it in a second, and wouldn't even care about Gerald Wallace. I mean, we'd then limit ourselves to only having around $6m to offer Lance, but if we could do something like move Mahinmi and #17 to OKC for Jackson, Thabeet (non-guaranteed), and #29 (#21, if we were lucky), we'd clear another $2m to offer Lance, pick up a guy like Reggie Jackson to replace Hill off the bench as our combo guard, or start at PG, and only move down to do so. Take whomever falls of Exum, Embiid, or Smart at #6, and run with it.
All crazy fantasy, I'll agree. Interesting fantasy, nonetheless. Especially since the thing Cleveland needs the least with Kyrie, Dion Waiters, and Jarrett Jack on the roster is George Hill. There's no way they'd consider that, but if it's merely cap space you want, you could probably find a different third team to try and fill the non-guaranteed contract part, or cap space part.

Re: 2013/14 Random Trade Ideas
I was unaware of Verajoa's partial guarantee, so that end of it does lack merit. The other places you might be able to move George Hill for picks would be Philly who has 5 2nd rounders, and Milwalkee who has 4. Also now that Channing Frye has opted out of his deal the Suns could absorb Hibberts deal lets say Hibbert for Plumlee and The 18th and 27th. Then make the deal for Jordan, Jared Dudly and Jamal Crawford and the 28th pick we give them our 2nd and the lower of the 2 we get for Hill.
We send out $23 million take back $21.2 million there about, I'd try to deal Scola for a 2nd or cut him if no deal can be done.
There are gonna be quality players all the way down to #45 in this draft and then some. Maybe move the 2 picks and Scola up for number 17 and Bogans from Boston. If you can't trade the 27 and 28 to move up a few spots take the best players available. I like Shabazz Napier at 18 and Jamari Grant at 27, Mitch McGray at 28.
Of course non of that is gonna happen and would depend on the Clips knowing they were gonna get LBJ and other teams taking on salary for picks. So whatever.
