There's no way he can play SF at the NBA level when he's going to be against guys like LeBron, Durant, Carmelo, and Paul George. McDermott can succeed, but only as a stretch four with a guy behind him protecting the rim (which isn't Cousins).

To me, he has Jared Sullinger like potential, except he already has the outside shot. Rebounding might never be there, but I think he has a Sullinger type game. I might be wrong, but he just reminds of him.

I think rebounding is a very underrated part of McDermott's game. Granted I want no part of him in Sacramento, it is a skill of his that's often overlooked because of his scoring ability. Watching him play, he's a big body with a good ability to get position under the basket to grab boards, but a lack of any athleticism and defensive ability will be his crutch in the NBA. He was able to get by in college playing a zone but man defense in the NBA is another story, completely. I do think he could be a decent stretch four to have coming off the bench though.

Maybe it's overlooked because he doesn't actually grab many rebounds for a PF.

Seven a game over the course of his four years in college is a respectable number for a stretch four. I'm not saying he's an elite rebounder like Randle for instance, but he certainly has the fundamentals and tenacity to get rebounds at the NBA level.

Dude Sullinger is a tank with an ability to bully even NBA players. McDermott isn't even particularly strong for a SF, never mind a PF. And the rebounding difference is a huge difference.

He's Matt Bonner. He has a future as a spot shooter in this league who's defense you have to hide. Using a high pick on him in any situation would be disastrous.

Sullinger doesn't bully players. He's more a finesse guy. Sullinger is a better rebounder & McDermott is a better perimeter shooter.

Shooters are great but if that shooter can't defend then why waste the resources? Kings should focus on two way players

I figured out who I think McDermott reminds me of: Peja Stojakovic. I'm not saying he'll be on his level or anything but there's a chance he could transition at the SF spot like Peja maybe. Has some of the same pitfalls but I do think Peja was a better defender at times than he's given credit for. McDermott might be better off the dribble though.

I'm just glad that that has to effectively eliminate McDermott from contention.

Anyway, the video itself covers really rudimentary stuff, and some pretty bad analysis. Like just looking at other #8 picks is dumb and removes context from the analysis.

Here Here Brotha Pill! We agree less than 50% of the time so I'm going to take this time to celebrate this one. I checked DX every day JUST TO SEE when they were going to take McDermott's name out of the 8th spot. They FINALLY did today. I could have told them from day one!

Just say no to McDermott.
