Flick says that he gives us a "good structure" in midfield and will keep playing there... :nonono:

So all the USA has to do is pressure two to three times and they'll have at least two chances on goal.

Lahm in midfield is still the right call as long as you play actual FBs back there. Tony Jantschke opposite GK or Durm would be perfectly fine and Lahm could keep our midfield together like no one else in the team can.

But Jogi gon Jogi.

To be fair, that bit about CR7 has to be the quote of the tournament so far.

BTW is the Ghanian fan in whiteface considered racist? I'm genuinely just curious.

Ghanaians refused to practice ahead of the Portugal game so their gov't sent nearly 3M in cash- the bonuses that the players were promised for qualifying to the tournament.

„Wer mich nach dem Ghana-Spiel anschaut, sieht, dass ein Unentschieden keine Option ist“, verspricht Müller vollen Einsatz. „Wir gehen in das Spiel, wie man in so ein Spiel reingeht. Wir haben unsere Art, Fußball zu spielen, und die werden wir beibehalten.“

Just when I thought I couldn't love Müller more. Destroy them.

The US team reminds me of the Raptors. Classic underdogs with underrated supporting fans, and a never say never attitude from their leader in Dempsey.

GO USA!

If everyon's fit, it will be like this.

-----Götze---------------Müller-------------Özil-----

--------------Kroos-----------Schweinsteiger------
------------------------Lahm----------------------------

-Höwedes-----Hummels--Mertesacker--Boateng-

---------------------------Neuer-----------------------

Don't really like that matchup of Höwedes and Götze/Özil vs. Zusi/Johnson on the defensive end. Both of our offensive guys aren't good at tracking back and Höwedes doesn't know what to do against faster players.

Oh I assumed he wasn't just doing the inverse of american blackface, but I was just wondering if that was racist the way german blackface is. The heritage may not be racist but with how americanized the globe has become it's considered racist now, so I wonder if the ghanian whiteface guy is the same or if that's different because the races are flipped.

That's not the best comparison then. Shaman guy wasn't trying to look Caucasian as far as I could tell.

I'm not Ghanan/African but I was offended by those German fans as a Caribbean-American man. Not hugely offended or anything mind you but stuff like that is done in poor taste regardless of "heritage".

It makes German people look bad, especially given how easily Germany's questionable racial history comes up, these fans should know better and expect to be labelled in some way and singled out. I say this as someone who loves Germany and had an amazing time abroad in Berlin/Nuremburg

Lemme just start off by saying I don't mean to defend those germans, I know that they're alluding to something that within our country was very pro racial equality during a dark era in the states, but they need to know that that has very different cultural connections outside of our country. Also I wasn't offended by the ghanian fan at all and I love how into the games he is.

That said what I know about what I'm guessing might be similar traditions from far further south on that continent, a lot of the whitefaced shaman traditions do trace back to a mistrust of the other and in particular white folk. Which is why the different reactions are interesting to me, I grew in chicago and much of my childhood was spent as the token white boy, even managed to be one of 2-4 token white boys on a hockey team, I also dated an american mixed race girl and then south african girl for quite a while and have a number of friends from that area, so race is something that's curious to me, even if many discussions of race in the US became far too embittered or ignorant far too quickly.

Especially because as a german our country has one of the most bipolar histories when it comes to assimilating others, Hitler was so successful targetting the jews because unlike the rest of europe german jews actually assimilated into the culture and so when dumbass started his finger pointing we seemed very suspicious and ubiquitous. Then came the great turkish migrations after the war and all that those entailed and the new generation of a nearly immigrant nation that we're becoming. So it's topic that's actually interesting.

They need to separate groups better. Crazy that a team like Greece or Nigeria make it to the next round and a team like usa who has played their heart out or Ghana is gonna be eliminated

Happens every four years.

It's part of the World Cup drama. I like it that way.
