NBA draft rumor: Multiple league sources believe that Zach LaVine has a promise from the Minnesota Timberwolves at No. 13.

:-?

Combined with the GS rumor this kind of makes sense - get win-now players in the Love trade, and high upside, win-later players in the draft. But at the same time, it doesn't make sense.

Draft promises in general don't make much sense to me, unless you're trying to get an international player to stay in the draft. At this point in the process it would seem particularly absurd, since prospects have had ample opportunity to work out and meet with teams.

As for Lavine, I see his upside, and rumors that Flip liked Mclemore was Flip's guy last year make the draft crush make sense if super raw, super bouncy with a nice jumper is Flip's type at SG. If the GSW deal is just a matter of working through the details, then I don't see as much of a need to roll the dice on an upside play at SG. Oh well, it'll be an interesting night tomorrow, even though the Love saga will likely drag on through FA.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

That's what I'm seeing and expecting for the draft. The wild card is the Denver Nuggets who might go for LaVine. Hopefully they do, while they pass on Stauskas, and we get our guy.

Can anyone remember a rumored promise that turned out to be true?

Reggie Jackson to the Thunder. I remember Devilz saying we should take him because OKC promised to draft him if he fell to them.

I disagree with this.

As one of the few (only?) people who's willing to wait out the Love situation in hopes he changes his mind, I think LaVine is exactly the type of guy we need to add to this roster. The reason Love doesn't see a future here is because we lack longterm upside players. Adding more players who don't project as anything more than role players won't change his mind.

Love is looking to team up with star power. Although many don't trust LaVine's upside, I do. He may not come in as a 20 ppg scorer right away, but I think he's one of the few who might be available at 13 who have the upside to be something special.

Maybe LaVine won't reach superstardom or convince Love to stay, but I'd rather go for the grand slam instead of maxing out with a singles hitter who might provide the occasional double.

Forgive me for switching sports analogies, but I think it's okay because I'm moving back to basketball. That sequence would be more like doing the Webster and being 3 points down and then dunking the ball on a breakaway with no time left on the clock.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Drafting LaVine? I disagree.

Drafting LaVine would be going for the three, win or lose. Drafting Gary Harris, you're going for the sure-thing two points.

The sequence I said, not just drafting LaVine.

I just watched every high school Lavine video on youtube and I am starting to see the Jamal Crawford comparison's a little bit. He's a little too in love with his pull up for my liking, but it goes in enough.

That Seattle connection. They are pretty good friends too.

I think LaVine will come along faster than Gerald Green (seems to have a bit more between the ears), but I understand the comparison. Harris I am ok with, just isn't a name to get really excited about. I know Stauskas can shoot and all, but he brings literally nothing else to the table.. I have no interest.
