Nothing is impossible. Have you ever pulled a stunning woman who you thought no way can I get her? Or, have you denied yourself with a defeatist mindset by saying, "It's impossible. I won't even ask her." Nate, I am shy but I have lived in a women's dorm for three semesters. Free room and board and all the other good stuff including showering in community bathroom. Me and two women just like Jack Tripper on Three's Company . And the roommates didn't argue. Oh, and turning down sex from girls I dream about what if I had thirty years later. Don't tell me something is impossible....

While I appreciate the inspirational speech, that doesn't change the fact that Gasol has lots more options available to him where he would make more money and/or have a better chance of winning.

I got distracted by my own speech. :)

Yeah, Pau won't be a Wizard because you are correct, nate, about his other, better options.

Who's "Rich?"

I say we all fulfill our good friend CCJ's destiny and start calling him Rich.

Dwain Price @DwainPrice 2 minutes ago
Per ESPN, the #Mavs are close to acquiring Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton from the NYK for Calderon, Dalembert, Ellington and Larkin.

I figured Dallas was the obvious team to go after Gorty. Now that they're virtually out of the picture, who else might go after him?

Even if there isn't anyone, I think it's very possible that Mr. Grunfeld will find a way to bid against himself. <shielding eyes from bottles about to be thrown in my direction>

I don't think Dallas being out of it takes too much off of Gortat's price. Most everyone in the media seems confident that the price is between $12-14 million per year. If somehow the price could end up at 4 years $44 million as opposed to 4 years $50 million then it's a victory of sorts.

I am only a somewhat believer in that being the final determinant in these deals. I think that if Gortat (or most players) think that the team is not really negotiating in good faith and is trying to stick it to them -- they have the option of signing a one year deal with another team and trying again for the big contract the next year. So I believe is that the emotional aspects of tricky and heated negotiations control what happens more than pure supply and demand rationality. That's what happened in the Wiz/Nick Young negotiations. He was asking for a ton (was it $9 mil ish??) and the Wiz offered (was it $5 or 6 mil ish???) and he just took the QO and has yet to get much more than the minimum since. You can't rely on a player not cutting off his nose to spite his face in these deals.

I've said before the only way he gets 10+ is if he does a 3 year deal (3/30-33M). I think he'll end up resigning here for 4/38M. This trade only cements that further as there is no team that has a combo of capspace, need, and win now mentality. Gortat is also in the Euro/Boris Diaw ball movement mindset and loves playing with passers. No other team has guards who can pass/score/defend as well as Wall and Beal...

This Dallas-Knicks trade could be huge for us. Ernie SHOULD play very good natured hardball with Gortat and his agent. "Look, we love you and we want you here. But we want to build a true contender, if by paying money we don't have to we're making it harder to do that."

Who else are his reasonable potential suitors?

BTW, I expect Dallas to go HARD after Kyle Lowry now.

Depending on how much Dirk re-signs for, they'll have a slot to sign a max.

But if they strike out on Melo, Lowry and Ariza would be the targets to go to IMO.

I would love it for that to happen but I think it's wishful thinking. I think the bottom is 4 yrs $44 million.

I must say that my ultimate evaluation of the trade we made for Gortat will be based on what he re-signs for here.

I saw it suggested on the Twitters that Dallas went after Chandler now because they thought it was likely Gortat stayed in DC. That obviously would not have been the case if we hadn't traded for him.

Perhaps we sacrificed an asset to position ourselves much better this summer after all?

We'll see. Exciting times.

Such as the 10 million dollar man in San Ant not named Tiago? To go with what Fish said, it doesn't hurt to strategically bring up things that great players do to help their teams compete.

J michael sure does love our treadmill core. He's trying to give me every justification in the world why we should overpay to retain Gortat over twitter. lol.
