Well Prince and Salmons kind of cancel each other out. Both have their best playing days behind them.
Im confused though, can't John Salmons be waived before June 30th and he would only be owed 1 million?

On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

If I'm not mistaken though, this move would limit our willingness or ability to overpay Lowry while also paying Grevis and Patman would they're likely to command.
In other words, if this deal goes down I think it means Masai is holding firm on paying Lowry no more than 11-12 mill tops and/or expects to let one of Patman or Grevis walk.
Most of our cap estimates were with Salmons cap space next year at 1 mill. Prince's contract is 7.7 mill next year so with this move, and the cost of the first round pick, we probably would have 9 million overall less to spend than some were expecting.
That said, we'd have two good players on rookie scale deals! We could probably still offer Lowry a strong offer but would then not be in a position to match a strong offer from either Grevis or Patman, depending on what they ultimately command.
I suspect Grevis would be the one we decide not to match on, especially if we take Ennis with one of 2 picks.

It's a $6.7 million salary dump by Memphis, so worth the #22 pick by itself.
Question is, would Masai package 20 and 22 to move up into the mid-teens.
I think that's definitely a possibility. Masai did say he has one player in mind that he would like to draft, this would give him some flexibility to move up if need be. If not, at the least you would acquire some depth with drafting two guys...

Oh snap. Looks like an Ennis/Capela combo.

Prince is old (34 years old), but he plays defense. Will be a good vet to bring off the bench and to help Ross. He is definitely on the decline though.
That said, I guess I rather do this then trade TPE for Dudley and 29. Ennis and Capela in one draft would be sweet.

imo, masai does this trade to grab ennis. so even if this trade doesnt come to fruition, i think its pretty evident that, if ennis is available, they wont be taking him.
How would you describe Raptors RGM forum in one sentence?

Happy we are getting Prince but we can't draft 4 rookies. We'd have to stash 2. Rookies don't win in the NBA.

I would think you let Vasquez go.

I don't think Ennis is available past the 16th or 17th pick...look for Masai to package the 20 and 22 pick to move up in the draft if he really wants Ennis. I think it's a smokescreen.

We'd also be sending our 59 (theoretically), I believe. Say goodbye to Bachynski then. Maybe we can bring him in for Summer League if he isn't drafted.

If Prince is in the Starting lineup, we gotta hope that Demar suddenly becomes a good 3 point shooter.

That would be Memphis' objective - to save money.Rhythm043 wrote:Well Prince and Salmons kind of cancel each other out. Both have their best playing days behind them.

Even if it is the 37th instead of the 59, I think we have to do this.

I'm sure they would take one of our second round picks.
Why would we want two late first round picks though? Are we going to use them to trade up?
Ujiri see's the amount of talent that is available after the lottery. A lot of good prospects to be had, I think he wants Ennis and Stokes.
Only reason he would make this deal is if he saw a few players he wants. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. You need to be make sure the players you want will be available otherwise...

Double Helix wrote:Would be ideal. Plus, despite his declining game does anybody honestly think Prince wouldn't have been put to better use on Joe Johnson this year than most of our SFs? I realize the downsides as far as the cap are concerned but I would love to have any 2 of the above players.

JJ killed us in ISOs/PostUps. And the PnR with DW.
Prince is pretty average at defending ISOs/PostUps, relative to the rest of his D, but lets face it, this is MEM team where TA takes the top wing most times anyways, and if you get beat you have a former DPOY in Gasol behind you.
Having said all of that, its another body to throw at them, its an expiring, and as Dagger alluded to, could facilitate a drop lower in the draft.
