Can't Fields do everything that Prince does (if not better) at this point?

I'd rather just cut Salmons at this point and not add any salary back.

All signs point to us going at the FA market next year.

Price is an expiring deal that allows us to get another first round rookie on a rookie deal.

Prince's playing ability is an afterthought at this point.

All signs point to 2016 actually.

Fields is expiring, we don't have to dump him at all.

It's an expiring for an expiring, we're not exactly swinging for the fences in grabbing another player this offseason, ie that cap space by cutting Salmons isn't going to help us net Lebron, and we get a solid first round pick in the process. I don't get the complaints as though the saved money will make a huge difference to our offseason.

No one is complaining about the trade

We are curious why people think Prince is going to be in our starting lineup or from my standpoint contribute anything on our team

He is finished both offensively and defensively

The issue is that his contract is guaranteed.
I'd much rather go after Ariza.

Saving for next year doesn't do anything. No big free agent is coming here. We either tank and do it through the draft (not with picks in the 20s) or we build a team without any top players, but where every player is above average (ala Detroit)

We are going to have great cap-space in 2016 to sign a superstar. Let's hope it turns out alright.

Prince will play 10 mpg off the bench and is gone next summer. I don't care.

Dwane Casey will play Prince 20 mpg. Loves the veteran moxie!

chances dont change. This does nothing to impact our cap situation really.

we are at roughly 41 million before re-signing Lowry,Vasquez,Patt + our 1st. After this deal that would put us at 48.7 million + 2 1st round picks.

#20 - $1,215,300 (rookie scale)
#22 - $1,120,100 (rookie scale)

So roughly were at around 50.1 million before re-signing anyone. If Lowry gets around 11 million lets say, Vasquez 4 and Patterson 4.5. You add 19 million to 50.1. So youd be at 69.1 million. The projected tax is going to be around 77 million so you will have a lot of room to wiggle under the luxury tax. Thats why i love this deal because we stay under tax, address all of our needs and dont impact future cap considerations (we would have max cap space next summer in all likelihood)

You could even go a bit higher on those other contracts, and/or keep Hans (rather than burn his 1M), and/or use the MLE or Rudy TPE.

And with a bunch of contracts expiring the following year, we maintain flexibility.

I would try to buyout Prince immediately and hope to negotiate a $1 million discount. Then Prince can bandwagon with a contender with a new salary that covers the $1 million he loses in the buyout.

And you think Ariza is worth going after for the amount of money we throw at him instead of a low salary guy at 22?

Here's the thing. If we have two significant rookies to develop, along with the continuing development of Jonas and T-Ross, is that the sort of situation that appeals to Lowry?

In other words, is going for two first rounders - even if we don't draft a PG like Ennis - Masai's signal that Lowry's not coming back?

PRINCES DEAL EXPIRES JUST LIKE SALMONS

22nd pick is BETTER than 37th pick

Why is everyone complaining about Prince coming here? It's such a simple trade to understand. Memphis wants Salmons to waive and save money, we upgrade a pick from 37th to 22nd. Prince's deal expires the same time as Salmons, so there are no long term problems.

Anyone looking at what Prince can offer is finding the positive in a guy who is a 1 year rental.

Ariza is treadmill move and will only help us marginally in the short-term

I prefer this deal. Continue collecting riskless assets with upside. Taking advantage of our cap situation

Think of it this way though, 22 is better, and it's not as though Salmons was lighting up the world. Pure salary dump by Memphis, and we're getting the much better pick.

Salmons=/Prince
22>>>37

Except,
Salmons (salary dump)>Prince

I think it's still a decent trade but we definitely aren't exactly ripping Memphis off.

Again, us taking on the money won't make much of a difference in terms of signing anyone, because I don't see any big fish we're really going after, so again, this is money that has 0 effect on me or you.

People are upset that we take on more money this season because it will severely restrict us in signing a huge piece in Ariza.

He looks like a guy who could be had for 3/18-20, which is reasonable. I'd still rather do that than more late round picks who won't be vital parts of the rotation.

I hope we pull off something like the Mavs, being able to trade down twice, and still got the player they wanted.

In 2009 the Mavs traded:

#22 for #24 and 2 second rounders
then
#24 for #25 and a second rounder.

so basically they got 3 second rounders by moving down 4 spots.

Who did they draft with 25 + the second rounders and who were the guys drafted at 22 and 24?

#22 - Victor Claver
#24 - BJ Mullens
#25 - Rodrigue Beaubois

The 3 second rounders:
2009: Ahmad Nivins, 2010: Magnum Rolle, 2010: Solomon Alabi

I know the players aren't that great, but just having those picks give you a chance to find a diamond in the rough.
