Primarily because we aren't really going to know if they were a good pick probably until this time next season.

I also think it's unfair to say that the pick tonight is going to turn around the Lakers. It's the first piece of the puzzle for sure, but it's likely not the biggest piece, and as optimistic as I am about our chances for a quick turn around, I feel like we have so many spots to fill from the coach on down, that we are going to at least need until next off season to get where we need to be to realistically contend. That's even if we get both Melo and LeBron...

So let's get hyped, let's stop listening to everyone saying **** can't go down to make us a championship threat this season... But let's not put all that on our new rook(s)...

Well said. That is why I don't buy into any of this win now stuff. Unless the unexpected happens I don't see us being very good next season. Much like you I've firmly believed that it will take until next summer for us to start a real turn around and I continue to hold onto this belief as we approach this draft.

Now with teams like Houston and Chicago positioning themselves to make room for Melo or Lebron its even less likely that we end up with one of this summer's top free agents.

A few outcomes I'd be really excited about..

Embiid, Exum, or Smart falls to us.. In any of these scenarios, I keep the pick & enjoy seeing what they can become.

If all 3 of those guys are off the board, I deal the pick to Charlotte for the #9 & Biyombo. Then with Chi rumored to be offering 16 & 19 to get in the top 10, I trade down again. If we get lucky Payton or Gordon falls to 16, most likely not so we go with Napier & Payne.

I like both Napier & Payne's chances of becoming legit players. Biyombo is a 21 year old defensive anchor with 2 years left on his rookie contract. We'd have a ton of cap space left to add an immediate impact player & most likely be very attractive for next summer's tier 1 FA's.

Embiid might have been a Laker had

Laker management not won the last two games along
with Swaggy P and Meeks and crew M'D.

Boston won't let the Lakers get Embiid given that they
have another pick they can take a chance.

This is where I wonder about Laker Management.

Good or bad there's not even a Lakers rumor on twitter. I hope Jim & Mitch are proactive around this time to solidify the roster just so we don't give a lottery pick to Phoenix next season. With New Orleans strengthening with Asik making playoffs in the west is damn near impossible for us.

I don't think us reaching the playoffs next year was ever realistic to begin with.

If I had to put money on it, I say it goes...

1. Wiggins (they need star power and he an Kyrie would put fans in the stands)

2. Parker (actually wants to be there as it's close to home)

3. Embiid (76ers traded for Noel knowing he'd be out too)

4. Vonleh (two Indiana players...he and Dipo would be a nice 1-2 punch)

5. Exum

Boston is tough to guess because they have Sullinger so there's no need for Randle, and since they aren't likely getting KLove, Rondo will probably be traded which means they may draft Smart (could totally see some ironic crap happening where the player I like most ends up with one of the teams I hate most).

6. Smart

7. Randle

Randle is good and all but of course he's got a foot that needs surgery that he'll get on our watch smh. Who knows how long it'll take for him to recover. I'd be torn between him and Aaron Gordon tho if Smart did to to Boston.

Well, this thread was fun. Draft day is here, though, so in an effort to encapsulate the day's events a little better, here is the new thread:
