16 minutes of the big 3 together surely is better under SVG than last season's redonkulous rotation

This is exactly what BMP and I are talking about. Limited minutes for Smith at the 3, then the rest of his minutes are shared with Monroe at the 4. Depending on match-ups and who's playing well, our big 3 can share the 4/5 position(this includes Drummond).

I know this is slightly off-topic but I really really really really really (did I mention really?) hope that we sign a better alternative at the 3 position (Ariza might be wishful thinking?) and Smith sees exactly 0 minutes at the 3 this season:

Drummond 32 / Monroe 14 / Jorts 2 (Garbage time at end of half/game)
Monroe 20 / Smith 15 / Others 13
<Insert signed SF here> 30 / Singler 18

I also don't want to see Smith on the court at all late in games or any time really when decision-making becomes critical.

If we don't sign a 3 I still think we would be better served playing Singler extended minutes over Smith at the 3. Singler is a solid role player but shouldn't be starting on an NBA team as a 3 -- but it's the lesser of two evils.

SVG has said it's about putting players into a position where they can succeed. SF is not where Smith has succeeded in his career.

I've tried to watch &/or listen to every interview I can find from Stan since being hired...when it comes to our current players I think people will be surprised

The thing is I've actually listened to Stan views on the Pistons before he was hired and I can tell you unequivocally he does not have a positive view of Smith. Whether that message has been somewhat messaged since he has become GM is inconsequential. He doesn't respect his game and thinks he takes way too many jumpshots.
