Which is why I do not see any way Reggie makes over $9M/yr even if he hits FA. Keep in mind that most of the players I listed will be FAs at the same time Reggie is which will create a lesser perceived value since he will be compared to those players further reducing his contract offers. Reggie is a great backup PG and 4th or 5th best player on a contender. However, if he's your starting PG and one of your top 3 players then your team is in the lottery, or maybe a 7/8 seed in the East.

Great point. I think that teams are very much afraid of overpaying players and compromising cap space. I think there's no need to trade him as there are plenty of other options for teams looking for a point guard

Some statements are so ridiculous they should result in a timeout, so the poster can sit in a corner and think about what he wrote.

Yet the check books always come out during Free Agency. Reggie will be 25 next off season.

What player, comparable to Reggie has demanded a large contract?

Just for curiousity's sake, I looked at his career comps on BBR, and through 3 years there is a guy similar....

2nd from the bottom:
Spoiler:
Jeremy Lin

This is really perfect. Lin got a 3 year 25 million dollar contract for an average of 8.33 mil per year and we're looking at Reggie (with WAY less hype) as a 6-8 million guy. It seems like we're valuing him right in line with the market. That's not surprising, an average pg makes average pg money.

And by WS, he's just a hair lower than Lin, so figure 8 instead of 8.33. Seems reasonable enough.

Lin got overpaid over a few weeks of Linsanity. If he had stayed healthy for the full year he would have ended up making less money. However, since the cap has increased Reggie is worth about what Lin got on that deal.

If we can get Reggie for 6 or 7 milly a year I'd be ecstatic.

I think Reggie has a lot higher ceiling than Lin.

Agree. You cant look at what others have been paid. In the NBA if a team has Cap money and they want to get better they will overspend to get players that want.

I really hope the first move this off season is to knock on Reggie's door at midnight with a solid contract offer. Then turn the efforts to Mr. Pau Gasol.
