Chad Ford on Payton

The most impressive workout I've seen this draft season came from Payton on Thursday. He has the least exposure of any of the prospects here -- but has as much or more talent as anyone on the floor. Payton had a big year, averaging 19.2 points, 5.9 assists, 2.3 steals and an incredible 8.9 free throws per game -- good for second in the country. Very few players possess his combination of size, quickness, defensive toughness and ability to get to the rim. I've had more than one NBA scout compare him to a young Gary Payton, and I think the comparison is a really good one.

Defensively, sure. He does have that potential. But Elfrid is really, really going to have to become a better shooter if he is going to be an upper tier starting point guard. That is one thing that players can improve on, but the fact that he is older and still not great at it is concerning.

I'll qualify by saying he's had three years of college. He's not old for the NBA by any means, but he does have more experience than most other prospects. I like Payton, but his shooting is definitely issue.

At some points, but other points are going to be very, very painful. I expect a lot of struggling offense and turnovers. But the effort and motor will be there.

Exum was wildly overrated from the start. Im sure he'll have a good career but people fell for the hype machine hook line and sinker. Lets see if he can even start ahead of Burks.
