Does anyone know when Norris' next start will be? I'm thinking of watching the Fisher Cats game on Sunday.

Was just looking at the milb boxscore for that game and it has Lane Thomas leading off playing 3B. Is that correct?

Juan Tejada is having an interesting start to his state side player in the GCL.

Today, he's 1-2 so far with a 3B and a walk while playing CF. So far through 6 and a half games he has 2 doubles, a triple and a HR. 5 XBHs in 23 ABs.

Edit: He's now 2-4 after adding a HR

In the DSL the last two years, he posted SLG% of .274 and .297. He did swipe 20 bases last year in 26 attempts.

He's a big body at 6-3 (BA calls him 6-4), so perhaps he's growing into his power....or maybe it's just good numbers thanks to a SSSS and a lucky streak.

From BA: He has a big frame (6-foot-4, 205 pounds), plus speed, plus power from the right side and the Blue Jays project him as a center fielder. The Blue Jays probably hope Tejada hits better than Gomez, though his bat is still raw.

After reading more on Tejada and the 2011 IFA class. I checked in on Wuilmer Becerra (Dickey trade). He's posting a ~.780 OPS in the GCL. He's still having strikeout problems though and he's bound to regress if he continues striking out 1 in every 3 ab's. He hasn't drawn a walk yet in 25 ab's too.

Speaking of guys that were shipped off in trades:
Kevin Comer is posting a WHIP of about 1.8 in the MWL. 22 years old
Joe Musgrove is posting respectable #'s although he's still in the NYP in his 4th season. He's 21 now.
Carlos Perez is struggling with a .619 OPS in AAA after being unprotected in the rule 5 this past year. He performed well in the Astros system up until AAA.
David Rollins was a guy that I hoped we'd grab and stash in the bullpen in the rule 5. In AA he's posting a 9 K/9IP with a 2.57 ERA. Against LHB his K rate is about 18/9IP and a whip of 1.18. He's 24, so he should be moving up soon.
Asher Wojciechowskihas only made 3 starts at AAA as he's been recovering from a flexor muscle strain. He looks like he'll be in the Houston rotation before too long.

Was curious myself and thought I'd pass along

As of now the only one who looks like he may come back to bite us is Asher Woj. The numbers he put up in the PCL meat-grinder last year are very enticing. It'll be interesting to see who has a better major league career between him and Happ.

I think enticing is pushing it a little bit, he had a 4 FIP and he wasn't at all young for that league. Happ by the way is solid #5 starter(actually 4, he's better than Dickey) in the AL East.

Putting up a sub 1.2 WHIP, 0.7 HR/9, and 7K/9 in the PCL isn't enticing? That's one of the better PCL lines I recall ever seeing.

And no, Happ is most certainly not a #5 starter. He's awful. He's a #6/AAAA starter in the AL East; it was a mistake to bring him over from the national league.

Not Happs biggest fan either, but how can you say he's not a #5 starter?

Career 1.4 WHIP, 4.25 ERA, 7.6/9K ??

I don't dispute that he's not a 5th starter... just not in the AL East.

I think he might have a future as a reliever, but if you think his triple A numbers are impressive than we'll agree to disagree.

Are you being sarcastic here? Happ's numbers have been consistent with his NL numbers and he absolutely is a AL East #5 starter, actually that's wrong, he's better than that. It doesn't matter what you look at, just ERA or the peripheral based numbers, he's been quite satisfactory and just as good as Dickey.

Here are the AL East pitchers with higher xFIP's than Happ
Chris Tillman
Erik Bedard
Jake Peavy
Miguel Gonzalez
Bud Norris
Ubaldo Jimenez
Vidal Nuno
R.A Dickey

He's had better numbers than more half a dozen AL East pitchers, its the sexy name syndrome, some guys get penalized for it and some guys have their weaknesses overloooked because of it, like R.A Dickey.

Anyways, i don't want to clutter the thread with this discussion, this is minor league thread afterall

It's a decent line, but given he did it in the PCL, it's excellent. Also, he put that up in 130+ innings. I don't see why he can't make it as a starter.

As for Happ, his tenure as a Blue Jay has been worse than his already poor career track record. He is an incredibly inconsistent pitcher, even for a #5. A WHIP approaching 1.5 in the East suggests he shouldn't be playing here.

Okay now you're just making stuff up, you'll find that your own arguments don't hold up if you look at the actual numbers.

Also, there's no such thing as a consistent or inconsistent pitcher, pitchers have good games and bad games, they get knocked around one day and they throw complete game 2 hitters the next day, that's the nature of the game. There's good pitchers and bad pitchers but there's no such thing as consistent pitchers and inconsistent pitchers. J.A Happ is mediocre pitcher, not an inconsistent one.

Really? That's an interesting perspective. So a pitcher that goes 7 innings one night and 2 innings the next is just as consistent as a guy who goes 6 innings one game and 8 the next?

Tell me which numbers are incorrect.
