Almost a day passed by and I think I'm kinda OK with the pick now. Who knows, maybe we got a steal? For now that's all I will hope for.

in the masai presser last night, he said they would look to have him play in the D league or Europe next year.
As it has already been stated that he will at summer league, people are assuming that he will start his contract.

It seems more likely however that Bruno won't start his contract and the Raptors will "Grant Jarrett" him and select him in the d league draft to control his development.

Masai said he's playing in summer league and will have a spot on the roster next year.

If your answer is yes, then please proceed to bash the pick.

That is all, thank you.

I'm shocked that there is so much anger. They scouted him many times in person. The posters on this board scouted the players in the 20-60 range by reading draftexpress. And yet, somehow, those opinions are more valid than actual scouting by people paid to evaluate talent????

He has insane physical tools. They definitely saw more than the douchebag saying he's 2 years away from being 2 years away. If he was actually that far away from becoming useful I would expect him to be stashed for a few seasons... However with his physical tools, athleticism, shooting, and age I would expect him to become a very good player at 22. Anyone know when he turns 19?

September I believe.

I don't buy the "2 years away...". I don't think that guy saw him play that much. Raw for sure, but with NBA coaching and training, i really doubt he is 4 years away from being anything useful.

He never said this!!!! He's already been given a jersey number - #5 - and will be on the roster for this season.

I that the overseas comment was said about Deandre not Bruno.

This guy needs to drop his last name, Brazilian style. His name and his face is a marketing dream (provided he can play).

I don't actually see how he can make the roster. He wouldn't be getting any playing time and we share a D League team with like 9 other teams. I doubt he would even get playing time there.

I kind of like the wait. I don't know if you're old enough to remember the rawness of T Mac in his rookie year. He never saw the floor, but just watching him in warm ups you could see he was on another level athletically. Watching him develop from a teenage athlete into a phenomenal basketball player right before my eyes was a lot of fun. Should be fun again this time.

For me, it's not the wait to see him live up to the potential that scares me. It's how long we have to wait to see if he even has that potential. (If that even makes sense.) We cannot have another Bargnani debacle where we waited 6-7 years to see a great 13 game stretch that amounted to nothing.
T Mac had that flare about him coming out of high school which isn't as apparent given the current video reference of Caboclo. There's just so much mystery behind him that I'm unsure whether to feel excited or terrified that Masai blew it. LVSL is going to be huge for his outlook. I just need to see glimpses of what he can do well to ease my mind.

This. I was on the T-Mac wagon early. I remember thinking he outplayed Vince in our first ever playoff series.

Some analysis from Eric Koreen:

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/06/ ... kes-sense/

Despite reports to the contrary, the Raptors genuinely did not think they would be able to get Caboclo at 37, or even trade down very far and still get him. There was certainly concern that Phoenix might take him with the 27th pick. Saying all of that, this seems like a decision that only Ujiri and a few other general managers could make.

...

In a few years time, Ujiri is going to look like a genius or he’s going to seem pretty silly. If it all goes wrong, it is unlikely the move will define him as the Rafael Araujo pick partially defined Rob Babcock — the 20th pick just is not a meaningful enough asset for that to happen. Make no mistake, though: It could be a pretty unsightly pockmark.

Still, even if Raptors fans hate the pick, they should admire the process.

I think we need to temper our expectations a little bit here. Masai has Bruno ranked behind Ennis on his big board, who most people think will be a solid starter in this league. To me, that's more of a realistic upside here, which is pretty solid for a 20th pick.

After giving it a night to sleep on this pick and actually think about it I'm starting to like the pick because he could be something special.

Now i like to think of it this way if someone came up to you and asked if you would like the sure role player who could probably have a nice steady career or if you would like the player with the potential to be a superstar (which some people say with his size he can be) with some work but could also possibly be a role type player bust at worse, I think you have to take the guy with the potential to be a superstar.

You can easily find role players any day of the week but taking these risks is what makes some teams great especially at 20 please look at the 20th pick for the last ten years it's the definition of mediocre

He looks a lot smoother than people gave him credit for, but he hasn't played against high levels of competition yet to make a comparison. 6'9 at 18 who can shoot the ball, is a fantastic athlete and has a wingspan at that size that has rarely ever been seen. Could be a huge bust, but has the tools to be an amazing player. I will take that risk over getting an average-above average player at 20.

Yeh, active player used his hands well but not often, has footspeed but coordination needs work. I'm searching for the video where he scored 30 points but no luck still.

If not, fire Masai.

That's a ridiculous argument. Manu Ginobili was the 57th pick in the draft. Should most of the GM's in the league have gotten fired?

Most of these guys are going to be median-level NBA players anyway. Guys like Tyler Hansbrough. They're not busts, but you wouldn't really miss them if they walked. I really doubt that five years from now, we'll be smacking our heads for not taking one of these guys. But that COULD be the case for other teams with Bruno.

Are you saying that teams should usually make the riskier, higher-upside pick?

Less-heralded players DO have value. Teams these days need to get some performance--even if just off the bench--from value players on rookie deals. And sometimes the players with lower expectations do turn out to be better than thought.

We got a player who could contribute right away in the 2nd round with Daniels.
