Ok but guys who are stashed in Europe already play in Europe.... its kind of convenience mixed with the fact they have professional contracts already.
Drafting a Brazilian, then sending him somewhere to be culture shocked for a year or two and learn a system that he won't be using when he comes over is probably not going to help anything.
With an 18 year old, you want to control diet and weight training. No European team is going to invest much time and effort in a loaner. Nor would he likely be able to play at a Euroleague or EuroCup level, certainly not big minutes. It works better with a college player because he might be over there for several years for all anyone knows (See Anthony Parker, Will Bynum, Alan Anderson - all guys who had long careers with European teams, and the Europeans have good reason to invest in their development.)
Agree as I usually do with you, but aren't those guys you pointed out ones who played in the NBA, somewhat failed THEN pursued their own careers in Europe? It's not like Alan Anderson was told to go over there to learn the game while Charlotte retained his draft rights. It's that he decided to go there to continue his career and developed into a better player right? Then he came back over knowing he was NBA ready.

Only a few of them pan out and have an impact on their respective teams. I don't mind us taking a gamble at 20 because everyone else is also a gamble. People are up in arms because he's an unknown but just his body type makes him an interesting prospect. He can develop into a 3 and D guy, and he could be much more than that. There's a decent amount of potential with this pick, and it's not like guys after him are can't miss prospects. I'm perfectly fine with trying to develop a raw player that has shown nba level athleticism, 3 point shooting touch, defensive instincts and from the few clips available, offensive IQ and motor.
But BRO.. Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker bro. We should have drafted BPA bro because we know what bro's are the best pro's here bro.
LOL.. I 100% agree with you, and you pretty much said what I said earlier. A guy took this as me saying theres never been somebody picked late that turned out, when I said the overall success rate past the lotto isn't usually very high.
Especially 2nd rounders, anyone upset about not making moves for guys in the second round are insane. Without looking at any data whatsover I can probably state that less than 10% of 2nd rounders play several seasons at a role player to starter quality. I also hate people who said we could have had Brunno "at 59th". There hasn't been a 59th overall pick to play a single MINUTE of NBA gametime since 2007, and that was DJ Strawberry I think...
