I have a real feeling we may have just drafted a stud. I'm feeling more and more happy with this pick as the hours flip by. I think from the things that he is saying, the coaches have said and other reports I have read that he will be better defensively than we think.

I predict he'll be starting at the 3 by the end of next season (barring any big FA signings). I think during close games we'll just be giving him the ball and getting out of his way. I'm starting to get some high hopes.

Hornacek also envisions him operating in the paint and dishing out to Bledsoe, Dragic and Frye on the perimeter. I am very high on Warrens potential.

I don't think a young wing with Warren's scoring ability could have wound up with a better head coach. It may very well be the case that after a (hopefully) long NBA career, that Warren can look back and thank Hornacek for his early development and long-term success.

It's scary to think that a player that scored so well in college still needs to fix his shooting mechanics.....

I mean, there needs to be a few expectations set here, right?

So far, Warren has shown that he's one of the elite scorers in this draft crop, combined with insane interior efficiency and a variety of post moves/ways to score.

Then Hornacek comes out and says that he impressed defensively.

Now, the concern is he "may" not be a capable/willing passer? He's not athletic "enough"?

So really, what I'm hearing, is that we expected to draft and "elite scorer" who plays "excellent defense" and has "playmaking ability", in addition to being "incredibly athletic".

So we just described LeBron James. We're brilliant. Yes. That player does sound incredible. Shame we couldn't nab him with #14.

Half of everything in life is setting the appropriate expectations, folks.

Except no one ever accused LeBron of not being a capable/willing passer.

.

LeBron never played college ball on a bad team. He was never in that situation. You just don't know. But even then, its OK. If a guy shoots 60% and the coach can talk him out of taking contested 3's, I would probably just let him shoot.

Seems like a guy who can contribute nicely. I've been sick and tired of players on our team blowing close shots. Hopefully Warren can shore that up.

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Thank you.

Really? I copied "North Carolina State Wolfpack" from your post and pasted it into youtube and this was on the 1st page. Your internet skills are lacking.

Their both similar type of players who have similar type of game also.

I think Marcus is a little better shooter at this point in his career while Warren is a little better at finishing in the paint.

His stats are eerily similar to Melo's college stats too,

When you watch tape of TJ and Marcus you see very different players. Marcus scored a lot on wide open looks from the outside and assisted plays inside. He looks far less mobile than TJ. warren has a variety of quick crafty moves in the paint and much more of a knack for hitting floaters and off balance shots in traffic. Warren also creates his own opportunities much more often.

Oh and then there is the fact that Warren scored 7 more ppg. Not sure how that one looks similar. Melo is closer

Warren has to realize if he wants minutes and a starting job he'll have to impress via defense and scoring without the ball in his hands first. We're talking about moving without the ball and being nifty against his defenders. He's gonna have to start out by being Ceballos. He's not going to get the ball in his hands either as a starter or bench player. Our bench unit doesn't pass either. Green and Kieff are going to dominate the ball next year off the bench. Warren's best shot is showing that he can finish for Bled or Dragic if they hit him off a cut or screen. If he can demonstrate this, perhaps he'll earn the trust of his mates to get the ball at the elbow during crunch time.

Also, I'm hoping he'll hit the boards too and earn his keep that way.

Wow that's awful audio quality. You'd think that in something as big as introducing their 1st rd pick rookies, they'd have it recorded well.

Yea I'm not gonna watch that one, I'll just wait til the Suns media people finally realize that they put up a sh**ty video and fix it...if they even fix it.

I'm still sceptical, I still think Warren is more of a 6th man type scorer.
Im struggling to imagine him doing the same moves against quicker, bigger, longer defenders who start or play heavy minutes for teams...

He would have to improve his outside shot, mid range and develop a 2nd/3rd counter to overcome the defensive level up in the NBA... He isn't an elite athlete, nor extremely fundamentally polished, nor having elite physical size either... Plus to get heavy minutes on court... He needs to Become a consistent impact defender.

If he can become a good 6th man scorer though, not bad return for the 14 pick

Rewatching the draft.... two things that stand out to me at second glance. One is actually how BAD Lavine reaction is to getting picked by the wolves.... its EPIC..... actually says f me before hugging the first dude..... oh my god when getting his hat as the lady nervously tries to get him to act right..... then f me again before shaking the last guys hand at the table on his right.... the reactions on the faces of the people at tables around him is epic!! Second, I think David West was at the table with TJ Warren..... was the last dude to hug him before he is ushered off to the stage! Good person to learn work ethic from.
