I take Drummond + SVG 10 out of 10 times, thank you. Orlando might have more young talent on the roster but its no sure thing they will develop and their coach sucks.

Re: Which situation would you rather have?
Good question, that's a tough call. ORL obviously has way more assets but none are super high quality. Here's their war chest of prospects:
PG: Payton
SG: Oladipo
SF: Harris, Harkless, Fournier
PF: Gordon, Nicholson
C: Vucevic
So more than half their teams is solid-to-great prospects that all have plenty to prove. You'd have to believe that at least two or three are going to work out as starters, but they don't have any sure thing vets either. They're so thoroughly invested in projects and long-term plays that you could easily see this team stinking for another 4 years.
So personally I'd rather have the Pistons and their problems right now since I'm really tired of watching crappy basketball. But taking that away, it's hard to turn down the (often empty) excitement of potential and young talent.

Re: Which situation would you rather have?
Orlando have some terrific young players, like Oladipo, Nikoli and Harris and now have some promising rookies in Payton and Gordon.
But, Drummond is the best young player between either team and Van Gundy is the better coach hands down.
I'd rather be in the position to put pieces around a potential superstar with a proven coach than still searching for the star and collecting assets.

Re: Which situation would you rather have?
Pistons for sure, I don't see a real star to build around in Orlando, plus they got screwed in that trade with the 76ers. If they kept Saric, to pair with Gordon, that would have been an amazing passing tandem in the front court. Practically good enough to get away with no legit PG. They'll have to stay bad for one more year, then hopefully they land a legit star player to lead that squad, in which case they'll look great. But for right now, I don't see them as being particularly better off than the Pistons, since we have Drummond.
76ers are gambling like mad here. If Noel doesn't recover well, if Embiid doesn't recover well, they have a bunch of 6'6" tall guys who aren't reliable ball handlers and can't shoot. The perimeter defense could be really good, but no point if you can't score. Risking a lot there, but at least they should get another top pick next year, then finally stop with the tanking.
The 76ers really killed it in the 2nd round though, they landed a lot of solid prospects there.

Would be overwhelmingly Orlando.
We're underrating Vuc. Monroe is about to get paid and he's our only serious asset besides Drummond. I love Dre, but the Magic are fairly loaded. We've also got a couple of large, concerning contracts in Smith and Jennings.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

If the lineup is Payton/Oladipo/Harris/Gordon/Vucevic who scores? Who shoots?
Give me Drummond & SVG

Re: Which situation would you rather have?
We have much more talent. What we needed was a cohesive clubhouse. AS much as we dog Jennings and Smith, they are talented. WE really, really, really needed a coach that had full support of a non-lame-duck GM. We have that now. And I'm sure we will pick up a couple of reasonably priced guys to help us on the wings. So I pick us.
Although, Oladipo and Gordon are crazy athletes with a lot of potential. They will be an exciting team. Hell, everyone is excited with potential - it's the offseason

Both teams are rebuilding and have max cap flexibility. Pistons have the better franchise player to rebuild around and the better coach. I'm trying to think of a reason to prefer their team but there is none. What am I not seeing?

Re: Which situation would you rather have?
Us. We have a probable superstar in Drummond and another great young potential allstar piece in Monroe. KCP could also turn out to be another great prospect for us. We also have one of the best coaches in the league and and some capspace to play around with too. We could be in the playoffs with a couple more good moves.
Orlando has a lot of really good prospects too but none of them scream superstar. IMO they should tank next season and try and package a couple of their prospects to bring in a somewhat young proven allstar.

I like what Orlando is doing but I'd much rather be you guys.
Drummond is worth more than their entire roster and SVG is the best coach they've ever had.
You guys are definitely on the right track and I hope we can pickup our rivalry in the games that matter, the playoffs.

Magic easily
They're not in the worst city among NBA teams and they don't have Josh Smith or Brandon Jennings on the team. Pretty easy choice.

Re: Which situation would you rather have?
From an outsider's perspective.. Drummond is better than any player on either team, but thanks to that fool Dumars there isn't nearly as much flexibility to build around him. And with SVG establishing a winning culture, DET probably won't be drafting in the high lottery range moving forward.
The Magic are loaded with young talent on cheap deals, and their GM is openly tanking so they'll continue to draft at the top of the lottery for 2-3 years. It's terrible for the fans and league, but that's the reality. Even if none of their players have true superstar potential, they would be attractive if packaged together for a bigtime star (eg the Carmelo to NYK deal)
Orlando also has the year-round warm weather thing going for them.
That said, I refuse to give a team props until they prove they have players who can actually win games. All this praising of openly tanking teams is ridiculous

Heard those reasons so much that they're putting me to sleep.
Try something new instead of trolling with the same **** everyone tries to troll us with. There are positives to this team and you neglected to speak of any of them.
Try again.

That you have to live in Detroit to play for the Pistons
