What does the Dinwiddie pick signal?

Post#1 » by GooseDiddy » Fri Jun 27, 2014 12:57 pm

As of this morning I beleive we're:

Jennings/Bynum/Dinwiddie/Siva
KCP
Singler/Datome
Smith/Jerebko/Mitchell
Drummond

Decisions needed: Monroe, Billups, Harrellson
Free agents: Villanueva, Stuckey

I think Stuckey and Villanueva were as good as gone the second the season ended, and with the Dinwiddie selction I think Billups will be pushed into the front office, or out of the organization. Does the pick also signal the end of Siva's time here? Or does it signal that moving Jennings is a priority over moving Smith? Or will Dinwiddie be moved to the 2 right away?

What do you think?

Potential future starting pg, most likely just a roll player, low risk high reward. Siva today is a much better player than Dinwiddie , unless Bynum revives the chemistry with Dre, he should be in a suit most nights.

Your overrating what Dinwiddie's going to bring. We might see flashes but he's not doing sh* this year

Nothing. They took the best available player, thats what you do with the 38. Pick.

If he can shoot, he is better for this team right now than Siva.

I think he is our future starting point guard. Jennings will be an expring contract next season so he can easily be traded.

It signals that the Pistons didn't have a very good pick this year.

Wish the kid well though.

Absolutely nothing. We needed shooters and we drafted one. It's insane people think this guy will start over Jennings.

The Suns taking Ennis signaled they would be trading us Bledsoe for Monroe.

The Jazz taking Rodney Hood signaled they would let us sign Hayward.

The Dinwiddie pick over Glen Robinson & Grant signaled that we'd be signing Hayward in FA.

Bledsoe/Jennings/Bynum/Siva
KCP/Dinwiddie
Hayward/Singler/Datome
Smith/Jerebko/Mitchell
Drummond/Harrellson

I can dream.....

It signals that they took a player with the most upside that fit SVG's criteria of shooting ability, high character, and willing defender.

The fact that he's a 6'6 combo guard is icing on the cake. But, you don't make wide sweeping plans around an injured second round pick. I doubt Dinwiddie bears any impact on how they will approach free agency this summer. Especially as Bower mentioned that it's entirely a possibility that Spencer doesn't even play next season if he's not 100%.

The only certain conclusion I could arrive at is that Stuckey will definitely not be returning to the Pistons.
It could also have a spillover effect regarding the futures of Chauncey and Bynum, as four PGs would definitely be too many.
As for Brandon Knight, perhaps Dinwiddie and him could share a backcourt with Jennings shooting away to his heart's content off the ball.

I hope it means we clean house of everyone but Chauncey (front office) and Siva (third string PG but on active roster).

Did Brandon Knight get traded back to Detroit at some point last night?

Hopefully it signals the end of Will Bynum being in the rotation for much longer....

lol. most of us in agreement - it only shows that SVG took the player he thought had the most upside, regardless of position. If your second round picks can make the roster, then it was a good pick (or you have a crappy team, or both). This guy could have been a first rounder had he stayed healthy. You can recover from an ACL, although it may take a year. So I wouldn't expect much this year, but maybe we get a nice surprise late in the season or next year. But our trades and free agent pickups are not really going to be affected by this draft pick.

It means SVG picked a dude he liked...

It's #38! He might make it but it's not likely. Hope he does but our plans wouldn't have changed one bit simply because we drafted him

I'm guessing he is a guy who comes off the bench bench and gives instant offense. I do think kcp sucks so I'd start him over kcp probably.

your underestimating the jump from College to the NBA. Siva helped take Louisville? to the finals , yet came to the nba and looked lost. Siva definitely has the edge
