I cannot believe 30 people already want this guy to run the Bucks. Why?

That is not a credential. If it was, Isiah Thomas would still be POBO for the Knicks.

Honeymoon over. These owners are f*cking clueless. Cannot even believe this whole thing is happening.
First was the blatant mishandling of the run-up to the draft, laying all of your cards on the table with respect to what you were going to do. And now multiplying that idiocy by a factor of 100 in considering Jason Kidd as President of Basketball Operations. These owners are naive and dumb, confirming that you may be really successful in one realm of business, but a complete buffoon in another.

Max Green wrote:As long as we don't give up any 1st round picks I'm more then fine with hiring Kidd as POBO. I understand he doesn't have any experience in a FO besides being a Head Coach for 1 year, but he's been involved with the NBA for the last 20 years, I'm pretty sure he has an idea on what the responsibilities are for the POBO and how to execute them. Also in that span of 20 years I'm sure he has identified who the Good GM's and Coaches are and I"m willing to give him the benefit of doubt that he will surround himself with highly qualified people.
You're wrong. You're just wrong. Jason Kidd identified an assistant coach he wanted in Lawrence Frank, and he wanted him so badly that he made the Nets owners pay him the highest salary for an assistant in NBA history...and then he fired him after two months. Jason Kidd played in the league, yes. That doesn't make you a good coach. That doesn't make you a qualified executive.
You think Jason Kidd deserves the same job title as Pat Riley and Larry Bird? You think Jason Kidd deserves the same responsibilities as Greg Poppovich and Doc Rivers? That's crazy.
Being a former NBA player doesn't mean anything when it comes to being a PBOB. Some of the best minds in basketball barely played in high school let alone stepped foot on an NBA court as a player.

Jason Kidd coaches this team for two years and Jabari turns out into what he's supposed to be and I guarantee we have zero problem getting decent FA here.

Yes, he was a Great Player...... Unfortunately, there is no known correlation linking the Skill of Dribbling/Passing a Basketball and being able to identify talent/run an organization.
Heck, most athletes are idiots (not surprising since they get self selected due to physical abilities primarily). We need individuals with preferably experience in evaluating talent and at least has a track record indicating high intelligence/leadership.
Stereotyping right here, a lot of athletes are more cerebral than you'd think
Surely, you are not trying to imply that if you compared the Intellects collectively of NBA Players to MIT/Harvard MBA's that the 2 populations would be anywhere near each other. Likewise, I bet in athletic testing the NBA players would decimate the MIT/Harvard MBAs.
Yes, there may occasionally be a Bill Bradley/Rhode Scholar type player in the NBA but those are by far the exception. If any proof exists, that Kidd is some brilliant mind, feel free to share any. Interestingly, we do know his SAT scores. Here is what he scored on his FOUR tries
670
540
630
480
**You get 400 points for filling out your name correctly!
Haha did he really? How are personal scores like this public?

Remember that everything we know about this situation is what we've been told by the media. Let's not crucify the new guys just yet. I want to hear their side before I make any assumptions about their ability to run a franchise.

It is pretty easy to know recruits SAT scores, particularly when they are a Top recruit and keep failing to qualify for eligibility because they are barely smart enough to be able to write their own name.

Re: Should the Bucks hire Jason Kidd as POBO? (with Poll)
I posted my initial reaction before reading both threads, so I didn't see the notes about giving up potential compensation. Wow, jfc. A bro of Lasry's, lol. if we are seriously going to hire Jason Kidd as POBO, let the Nets fire him before we give them anything. It's not like we're trying to steal Phil Jackson or some proven talent (emunney's point). Giving up anything for a guy out the door is an absolutely terrible move. Even if it is a 2nd round pick. The guy has no proven experience running an organization!
I'm now cool with keeping Hammond. Well played Lasry/Edens.

As much as I want Hammond replaced, it would be a bad sign for those of us wanting a better front office to have him clumsily canned for Jason Kidd, and only 24 hours after the new owners let Hammond and Drew do extensive PR with Jabari.
That said, I'm holding out hope that all of this is sparked by Kidd overplaying his hand by virtue of Lasry mentioning to Kidd in passing that he'd give him a courtesy interview someday and that L&E have zero intention of hiring him.
Yes, clumsy is the right word to describe this potential hiring, and clumsy is not what you expect from two new owners. L and E have to make a statement soon to save face in front of the NBA community and Milwaukee, or as Badger said, this will either be the end or the start of three worse than awful years, no matter whether we win some more games. Kidd is not a Milwaukee guy and giving a whining prima donna the keys to the house and the safe is not a Milwaukee move. Make him earn it. But don't hire him as coach now if Hambone is out of town soon.

He did go to Cal, one of the best academic schools in the country. Obviously they worked something out for him but he did go there and end up as a top 3 pick in the draft.

These overreactions are insane. Some of you need to take a nice nap and shake off the booze.

I have a feeling this is happening. Just too much smoke for there not to be some fire. As a person who advocates hiring smart people and as a Suns fan who just watched a smart guy in Hornacek do wonders in his first year Kidds background troubles me. With that said I'll hold my judgement until i see the results; if he puts good people around him and doesn't act like the jackass his past tells you he might then he might be OK. Obviously I voted no on the poll above but realistically i don't know the dude and I really don't know if he'll do a good job.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

We know nothing at this point and people are already saying things like the new owners are Herb Kohl reincarnate. They might be, but we sure as hell don't know that yet.

Honestly, if we want a "name," I would rank Bill Simmons >>>>>>>> Jason Kidd. At least Simmons has experience running an Organization (Grantland), is highly knowledgeable about Basketballs history, and would spend millions of hours working on trades.
Or, if we really want to speak to the "Casual fans" then give it to Rodgers. It would attract interest from Packers fans and he would not meddle too much since he could only help out during the offseason.

Re: Should the Bucks hire Jason Kidd as POBO? (with Poll)
Quick assessment, success based only... winner. Personal... skeletons... but still succeeded... Adaptability... off the charts... lots of adversity last season... not every successful person is an angel. So, I would be willing to absorb some deficient qualities for potential return. This isn't politics or environmental safety... it is one guy assembling 8 guys to play a simple game. He did it with dinosaurs in Brooklyn, after a ton of ridicule, personal adversity, a major injury, old school parlor tricks, and national media laughter. Dude didn't quit, he never does.... he just fights and scraps for the best possible outcome... I am down for a few years of that. The intelligence issue, is not a factor for me. He never was the most athletic player on the floor, yet he was always a guy on the floor people needed to account for in a huge way.

I could totally see Rodgers calling a timeout in the Super Bowl to propose a trade and then the next play throws a TD like a boss.
