We all failed....

Post#1 » by Kilo » Sun Jun 29, 2014 2:04 pm

This tweet from Piston draftee Spencer Dinwiddie got me thinking -

Spencer Dinwiddie @SDinwiddie_25 ยท Jun 28

Optimus Prime is an animal!!..and he's Pistons colors #MayorPrime

When Andre Drummond was wearing #1, why in the hell was he never nickamed Optimus Prime? Bloody hell Piston fans - it was perfect. Big dude, red and blue, #1 etc. Especially when the Lions have Megatron in Calvin Johnson.

"OP is depicted as a brave, powerful, wise and compassionate leader who puts his talent to use improving the universe around him. Optimus is portrayed as having a strong sense of justice and righteousness and has dedicated himself to the protection of all life, particularly the inhabitants of Earth". -wiki

I'm sorry, Kilo. I really dropped the ball on that one. The last 72 hours I have been just buried in paper work.

^Wouldn't fit now anyways as Dre wears "0". Dinwiddie might be trying to claim it but #MayorPrime doesn't work, and he surely wouldn't wear #1 given he plays the point and already comes from the Buffaloes, he surely doesn't want to further any expectations already there.

Spencer is the Mayor of the Palace.

The position was more important than the actual king in Merovingian France, so I really like the nickname for him.

The whole megatron and optimus prime nicknames thing would have been marketing gold for Detroit sports channels.
There's still time for Dre I guess. Right now he doesn't really have a nickname.

He's had plenty of nicknames thrown at him, most of them have been awful.

I'm definitely not a Transformers kind of nerd... so, a question: What does the #1 have to do with Optimus Prime?

What I am, among other things, is a math nerd -- 1 isn't prime. Just seems like a strange choice.

From Google definitions: "of first importance; main."

I'm still fond of Andre The Giant. I've always wanted to photoshop one of those Obey logos with Drummond's face instead of Andre The Giant's face.

That's not what prime means mathematically though...

I wouldn't say I failed since my job is not coming up with nicknames or marketing ploys, but alright.

Well since you don't really know much about the show, he's the leader of the hero side. His character fits with the definition of his name. Look up the definition of Optimus and Prime, put it together. What number gets associated with "being the best" and "first" importance? 1. I guess that's what Kilo was getting at (or.whoever said it)

Blows me away how this nickname isn't used, it is almost to pefect. I have to admit the whole penguin thing is pretty lame to me.

Demaryius Thomas - Denver WR, followed Calvin at Georgia Tech - is given the Optimus Prime nickname by some.

Ever since those horrible movies came out, Optimus Prime hasn't really struck me as cool.
