You do realize it's not just Nets fans posting in this thread, right?

I won't lie this thread is pretty legendary in a sense since it was completely ignored until the news broke. I lurk this board time to time since the off season and after the draft I saw the thread title an didn't even think much of it just thought it was a fake and now it turns out to be one of the biggest news of the off-season so far and it was first posted here....It's just funny to me.

But anyways about dat compensation pick doe

Did a quick cleanup of the thread and I'll probably do another one later. If you feel your post was unfairly deleted, I really couldn't care less and please don't ask why it got deleted. All future posts along the lines of "posting in legendary thread", "GOAT ballboy", "eating crow", And-1 ratio, and smilies posts will be deleted.

i can understand the power struggle per se, but this pretty much reeks of jealousy and such. Kidd should have known what he got himself into and should realize that Milwaukee, or almost any team that will hire him in front ops, will definitely not be easy.

*Edit, damn just saw the above moderator's post lol.

Jason Kidd should have asked for more money first. Force them to make a symbolic/monetary concession and continue playing the long game. Kidd is one aggressive dude. If he gets too much power he's going to be a tyrant of an Exec.

Prokorov wrote:Man.... one of the things that is so frustrating is that kidd was really so spot on with his direction:

--One of the final straws for Nets ownership came around the trade deadline. Kidd advocated for a trade with the Bucks that would sent Brook Lopez and Mirza Teletovic to Milwaukee for the deeply troubled Larry Sanders and Ersan Ilyasova. The suggestion, mostly about Kidd's belief that Lopez couldn't fit in his system, was considered and rejected by the Nets brass.

--Kidd was angered by the Nets decision to trade for Marcus Thornton rather than Jarrett Jack, who he believed would have been a better fit. Nets ownership believe that Kidd's ultimate ambition was to dump Billy King, with whom ownership remains quite satisfied. Kidd believes that King and Nets ownership do not have a long term plan and are too opportunistic.

Lopez needing to go, Wanting to bring in more defense at Center, King being a bad GM.... but what scares me most is:

"kidd belies nets ownership do not have a long term plan" which might singal that the team doesnt really have a good grasp on what needs to be done to get a star in 2016

That's completely crap from Kidd. That deal is not a long term plan and it does not make us contenders. We would be shelling out over 240 million in repeater tax money for a team not any better than what we have with Brook/Mirza.

If the Nets didn't have a long plan, they could have made those deals. Having cap space and collecting young players is as long term as it gets.

Kidd is looking for an excuse for himself and he won't get it.

Jason kidd is the reason I'm a basketball/Nets fan, but man, the guy is really making it hard for me to keep holding him in high regards.

I could understand wanting to up his salary since Kerr and Fisher don't deserve to get paid more than he does, but to demand a higher position then whine and burn bridges because he didn't get his way? F*** that. I hate Billy King and would love a competent GM sooner rather than later, but Kidd is in the wrong here. Even though I disliked a lot of things Kidd did in his first/only year as coach of the Nets, I still felt he had the potential to become one of the better head coaches because of his implementation of a system/identity that wins games, not to mention his development of players, all in his first year. It sucks that it's come to this.

And props to Carl for breaking the news.

I really think the Nets should just take whatever they can get and run from Kidd. You're getting compensation for a guy who isn't that great of a head coach and will likely be fired if nothing happens. 1st rounders are for guys at the level of Doc Rivers

What Kidd and Rivers are worth isn't exactly everything. It's Adam Silver's involvement looking into this.

Wow...reading some of the personnel ideas and evaluations on this thread (opinions on Larry Sanders, in particular), it now makes a lot of sense why people think King is a bad GM. They're clueless.

I hope this is true. We may end looking like bandits.

First, props to Carl.

Second, I wonder whether Carl's Nets source wasn't in fact cool with the info getting out so early, especially that Kidd had chats with Bucks owner as leverage. If nothing else, Kidd comes out smelling foul before he can say Nets FO have no long-term plan so he looked for other opportunities, when it seems there already was one in place. No way Kidd leaves without having some leverage or back up plan in place. Damage control and compensation by the Nets.

If Carl's source was not ok with the info leaking out so early, he should just post a "HI" to show that he's ok lol

I thought Messina had an assistant gig lined up (GS behind Kerr?), which is why he left the Russian team? If not, that would be a great hire by the Nets. They still really need to get rid of King though...

If not Messina, why aren't people interested in Van Gundy (assuming he wants a coaching return)?

Carl, couple quick questions from a magic fan...
Who will we pursue in free agency?
Are gordon-payton-dipo the best young core like everyone is suggesting?
How many baby mommas does Dwight actually have?

Please email me your cell number and address so I can chat and pick your brain.

Sanders helps in 2016. Alot. his 11 million doesnt hurt, we would still have 25-30 million to spend in free agency and it sures up the center position with a top notch defender. Also would help convince some guys to come here

Also, He would be a 27 year old defensive minded center on an expiring deal. thats super valuable if we need to aquire a star in a sign and trade to get them here and need something to send back the other way. Dwill doesnt work in that regard but sanders would be more attractive.

Dwill is the issue in 2016, Sanders would only help.

You're putting a lot of weight into his one good season where he earned that contract extension. He was a mess last year, no one wants him now. If he continues to have off the court problems he will negative value and won't be easy to unload. Its not worth the risk.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions about Sanders. He didn't earn his money because he averaged a double-double. He earned his money because, when he's on the floor, he's one of the top 5 most impactful defenders in the NBA. And that might even be understating it. The difference defensively when he's on/off the floor is off the charts.

Yes, he's a great defensive player. With no draft picks and little ways to improve the roster the best bet for the Nets is to hit the reset button and try to hit it big the summer of 2016.
Right now the only two players under contract in 2016 are DWill (player option) and Plumlee (bargain rookie deal). The object should be to try to move DWill next summer for expirings: package him our 2015 pick, 2020 pick, whatever the Bucks give us, Bogs right if people value it,and one of our 2nd round picks if one amounts to anything. That way we have a clean cap.
The following players are free agents in 2016: Conley, Durant, Derozan, Jefferson, Noah, Howard, Horford, etc. The plan is to try to convince Durant and friends to come here. With max cap room we'd have room for 3 max type players or 4 if people take discount like Miami.
The Nets would be rolling the dice with Larry Sanders and his red flags, off the court problems bringing him to NYC where there's much more to do off the court, easier to get in trouble. It could conceivably blow up in the Nets face and that risk is not worth it especially since other gambles this franchise have taken have blown up. I wouldn't be willing to take the hit to our cap in the summer of 2016.
That's my thought and why I'd rather keep Brook and let him expire. Our front office seems to feel the same way.
